5 Common and Harmless Pregnancy Pains

We don’t blame first time mothers who panic over the several pregnancy pains that they will encounter throughout this beautiful journey. As first-timers, it is clear that with zero experience, anything and everything that happens to your body freaks you out. Relax and take a look at these few pregnancy pains that are actually very common and harmless which might be happening to you now. However, trust your instincts, if you know it’s not right, go and consult the doctor.

1. Round Ligament Pain

Where: The round ligament pain is felt at the lower abdomen and in your sides. It is sometimes described as a sharp, jabbing pain..

Why: This pregnancy pain happens because the round ligament that is connected to the front part of the womb to your groin is starting to stretch.

How: Experienced mothers suggested to take a nap and you won’t feel the pain after you wake up.

2. Slight Abdominal Cramping

Where: This pregnancy pain occurs very early in pregnancy at the abdomen. It is very common and uncomfortable.

Abdominal cramps that happen very early in pregnancy can be caused by bloating and constipation, a very common yet uncomfortable pregnancy side effect.

Why: It could be due to bloating or constipation. It is also because the uterus is going through some kind of expansion which causes pain.

How: Eat food that are rich in fiber and drink plenty of water. You can also take a short walk between 2-4km everyday.

3. Back Pain

Where: A common pregnancy pain that is discomforting to the back during later stages of pregnancy.

Why: This happens because the baby’s movement pressures on sensitive areas in your body. Also, it can be caused by the ligaments stretching.

How: Take up yoga classes which are actually known to be very useful. The poses you learn in class actually helps you to strengthen important parts of your muscles as well as helping them to stretch. You can also do simple stretching exercises at home to ease the pain.

4. Leg Cramps

Where: At the legs which also sometimes include muscle spasms and are common during pregnancy.

 

Why: Leg cramping and muscle spasms are usually due to dehydration and low potassium.

How: Drink plenty of water and include more food with potassium in your diet such as bananas and raisins. You can also try sleeping with a pillow between your legs.”

5. Braxton-Hicks Contraction

Where: It’s a tightening feeling you go through time to time in your uterus.

Why: This is a common pregnancy pain which happens because your brain sends messages to your body to prepare for labor. In response to this message, the muscles in the uterus contracts to prepare for labour.

How: All you need to do is just get up and walk a little or move around. Eventually, the pain will cease.
