Autsome Unicorn Run: Magic In Every Mile

On 28 April, in conjunction with World Autism Awareness Month 2019, Sunway Putra Mall collaborated with Knightscape Signature Resources to organize a charity fun run, ‘Autsome Unicorn Run’, with the support of The National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM). A total of RM20,000 was channelled to NASOM to fund the Autism community in Malaysia.

Autsome Unicorn Run was held to create awareness for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by taking its participants through 3KM, 6KM or 10KM of the run course. Themed ‘Unicorn’, participants were encouraged to embrace the magic of these mythical creatures and complete the race. Colourful unicorn headbands were given to the first 300 participants.

An ‘Autsome’ Finale for April

Autism is recognised as a developmental disability that starts from childhood. In Malaysia, there are more than 300,000 people on the autism spectrum and educating the public has been the focus of many initiatives over the past few years.

The run gathered more than 2,000 participants from all walks of life including individuals with Autism. The atmosphere radiated with electrifying energy when enthusiastic participants engaged in the upbeat warm-up session by Anytime Fitness.

Many participants dressed up in pretty tutus and Unicorn headbands.

The run was flagged off by HC Chan, CEO of Sunway Malls and Theme Parks; Kevin Tan, COO of Sunway Malls; Phang Sau Lian, General Manager of Sunway Putra Mall; Feilina SY Muhammad Feisol, Chairman of NASOM; Jackie Ten, Director of SEA Cuisine Holdings Sdn Bhd and Ng Kor Shing, Senior Manager, Business Development of SEA Cuisine Holdings Sdn Bhd as the main event sponsor who also participated by running with the participants.

According to Chan, “It is truly exhilarating to see the support from the community and we hope this run will serve to raise awareness on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).”

Lots of Fun, Magic and Sparkle

Those who joined the 3KM fun run course stopped by Magical Station that offered a variety of fun activities which included Unicorn Photo-Op, Magical Powder and Sparkle Pens.

There was a face painting booth and sensory play station that left participants with magical memories and an enjoyable experience. Apart from that, there was Autsome Bazaar where products such as DIY accessories and paintings made by autistic individuals were made available for sale. Also, there was an Autism Screening Booth organized by ABC Therapy Centre that offered screening for autism for FREE.

Many Autsome Unicorn Run participants took part in the Best Dressed Competition and some walked home with attractive prizes such as Poh Kong jewelleries, Sunway Lagoon passes and more worth almost RM10,000.

Other sponsors of this event included Absolute Thai, Anytime Fitness, Poh Kong, Juice Works, Smart Master, Niki Cains and Sunway Lagoon.
