Before Vs After Marriage | What Malaysian Men and Women Say

Marriage is more than just the confirmation during the “akad” or the “I do” exchanges between a couple. There’s a lot more about marriage that we never know until we take the plunge.

Don’t be fooled by the rom-com you’ve been watching though. Because life isn’t all rainbows and unicorns.

Here are some of the reality checks for life after marriage that most couples went through (and we promise, no more bad rhymes).

  1. Men After Marriage

As a woman myself, I understand that we always have high expectations for so many things, especially on our husband. But at the end of the day, we are who we are and everyone has flaws and all.

Your knight armour suddenly is not the good listener he used to be because he “wasn’t listening”. Be prepared for his “hearing problem” excuses after marriage. Trust me, you will hear this often. Ehem, you’re all ears when we were dating!

You should be prepared to see his wet towels on the bed, he ‘loses’ his stuff, dirty clothes on the floors, car keys on the table, and many more. During this time, just keep calm and do the things for him but don’t forget to remind him. Eventually, both of you will adjust to each lifestyle differences.

  1. Women After Marriage

Well, in this case, my advice for all husbands would be hands down to the “woman is always right” phrase – if you don’t want to be bombarded with a mouthful of questions and answers :’)

  1. Going Home

Husband, your nightlife is not the same as when you are single. The wife will say “Yes, you may hang out with your guys”, but be prepared for the ‘after-effect’ while you are outside or going home later that night.

My advice here, don’t be too late and don’t even promise what time you will arrive home. 10 seconds late equals to 10hours (or more!) of no-conversation at all. In short, this meme says it all.

  1. Going Out

Another reality check that you should be prepared is when both of you are going out. Husband, patiently wait for your wife’s one-hour shower-skincare-make-ups-dressing-up routine, while she will ask you to hurry up when you’re putting on your shoes. No worries, you will adapt to it.

  1. Communication after marriage

Communication is and the utmost important thing when it comes to marriage, especially the wife. As mentioned in the 2nd point above, “woman is always right” and woman remembers everything!

She remembers even the last two years’ argument and will bring it up if any similar situation arises. Yeah, woman is just that complicated.

  1. Sex…can wait?

Well, yeah – sex can wait! Often people think that marriage gives you easy access to have sex every day. But naah, it doesn’t!

First, consent still wins even after marriage and second, once the baby comes in, both of you just have different priorities which lead to the third reason, limited time.

It’s okay. Eventually, you will find time for each other when the times come. But don’t forget to lock the door!

  1. New Family Members

Whether both of you are planning or not, there comes a time when the news of the family member comes as a surprise!

That will be one of the happiest moment for every married couple. You will start thinking of all the responsibilities and priorities, but all in all, the new family member adds joy and colour to your married life.

Embracing Reality

I guess, even if not all, many couples will experience most of the things mentioned above after they’re married.

But it is not a bad thing though. It is the natural transformation and combination of two different people into one life, under one roof.

See how these Malaysian couples eventually “confessed” these situations along with their partner and embracing the reality of a married couple.
