Hisyam Hamid is a household name that needs no introduction. He champions every role he has been offered. And combined with a nucleus of lovely fans from his great interactions, these have led him to where he is today: a true celebrity figure.
He has been in the spotlight for more than 10 years and has never been in any type of controversy within the entertainment industry.
Off camera? This Superdad is a loving husband of 16 years to his beautiful wife, Rosmawati Hanafi, and father to his two children, Nurish Syameliah (15 years old) and Hayden (13 years old). Hisyam gives fans a glimpse of his personal life as a parent and a devoted husband through his Instagram posts.
His juggles between work and becoming a parent are relatable. It is also not something that we hear too often among celebrities. For that reason, we awarded Hisyam a trophy for ‘Celebrity Dad of the Year’ at the third annual Ibuencer Awards recently.
We couldn’t be happier to see the beaming smile on his face upon receiving the award. He works tirelessly for his family and being away from them during the COVID-19 season is certainly not easy.
During this holy month of Ramadan, Hisyam is just like all working parents. Instead of going to the office with flexible working hours, he has to be on set filming his latest project. It proves that being an actor isn’t an easy task because his work is physically demanding.
We decided to ask him what’s keeping him energetic during the fasting period. Perhaps there’s a super meal he consumes for suhoor? “For me personally it’s oats and dates. This Ramadan, including last year’s, I’m on my own. So, I need something quick and easy to keep me going the entire day at work.
Oats are known to be the most nutritious food. As for dates, they have much goodness of its own, a staple for Muslims during the month Ramadan. Plus, consuming these two will be less of a hassle. I don’t really have to clean up and it’s so much easier.”
The biggest annual celebration for all Muslims upon completion of Ramadan is of course Hari Raya Aidilfitri. It is the perfect way to end the month of fasting. This year somehow marks a different tone and mood because of the pandemic.
After two years, Malaysia and Singapore reopened the border on 1 April 2022. It is a little reminder of all things we need to be grateful for as Muslims from these two countries can finally reunite. For Hisyam? It is home, family and loved ones—a cause for celebratory this coming festive season.
“That’s great news for everyone! Especially for those who are working in one country and have a family in a neighbouring country. This is going to be a wonderful experience. Some of us have not been home for two or three years.
As a husband and a father, this will be the time I’m going to make use most of it to be with my family to make up for the lost time. It will be one of the moments that I’m going to cherish deeply now that Raya is just around the corner,” he added.
We concluded our chat with this charming actor by asking him to list down some of the most interesting facts about him. And he did in a blink of an eye! Here are 20 amazing facts about Hisyam Hamid, handwritten by himself for Motherhood.com.my:
- I’m the strictest when it comes to disciplinary issues.
- On the contrary, I’m also the goofiest one when it comes to playtime. Being silly with my kids, allows me to bond better and better my role as a father.
- When my kids were very young, I made a point for them to make it a habit; before and after leaving home, not only must you ‘salam’ your parents and grandparents, but make it a point to hug and kiss them too. Just so I could inculcate them to be loving and caring people.
- Do not disturb ‘ayah’ (me!) when he is watching football.
- I like to do outdoor activities with my family during my off days like hiking or cycling.
- I practice rewards system for my kids. If they want something (for example, a phone), they have to work for it. Good results and attitude will determine if they deserve that carrot in the end.
- I don’t spoil my kids with expensive or luxury items. They need to understand that it is not easy and sometimes you have to work to achieve certain things.
- I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day.
- I prefer randomness; out of the blue, surprising my wife with gifts.
- I love my children. When I’m with them, I will be a kid by acting like them, being all silly and fun with them. (We can’t help but feel inspired with awe upon reading this).
- I have a soft spot for three things: Kids, the elderly and animals.
- Coffee is the one thing I cannot live without.
- I believe in the notion of always putting others above self.
- I hate liars. And my children know that lying is a very big and serious offence. So, if they did something wrong, owning up and admitting your fault will be dealt better and with more respect from me as compared to lying your way through.
- I’m not a romantic person by nature; I’m an introvert.
- People may not know that I am actually very ‘manja’. However, I don’t need much. Just spare your time and make me feel appreciated is more than enough.
- If I really want something, I will go all out to get it.
- During my off days, my main priority is always spending time with my family.
- At home, I delegate chores. For example, ‘kakak’ (my eldest) would usually wipe the table after meals and wash the dishes. ‘Adik’ would clear the table after meals and take out the trash.
- I try to establish a friend-to-friend kind of relationship with my kids so that they can come and talk to me about anything and everything. I always believe that parents should be their first point of contact when a situation arises.
