Prime Minister Ismail Sabri announced on last Sunday (Oct 3), the Malaysian state borders will reopen once our country reaches 90% herd immunity, which also means interstate travel ban may soon be uplifted.

Malaysia is now 1.2% away from vaccinating 21.1 million adults, with 88.8% of the population already vaccinated. Additionally, Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin also verified that upon reopening the state borders, the MyTravelPass (MTP) will no longer be mandatory for overseas traveling.

As of 7th October 2021, the government site, COVIDNOW, recorded 20,915,720 adult Malaysians to be fully vaccinated.

According to the COVIDNOW site, generally, around 90,000 people in a state tend to receive their vaccination each day. On Thursday (Oct 6) alone, the country recorded a total of 209,907 vaccines administered across all states. Malaysia is therefore days away from achieving 90% herd immunity and having its borders finally reopen.

Despite the closure of several major PPVs, the vaccination rollouts in Malaysia continue to soar. States are still very much meeting their targeted vaccination rates.

A Breath of Fresh Air between State Borders

The great news in a long while is that Malaysia is indeed propelling towards recovery, especially with the state borders reopening soon, allowing us to interstate travel again. But remember, it only takes one person to spark a cluster.

With the interstate travel ban soon to be uplifted, there’s a higher for us to visit the great outdoors for a breath of fresh air. Be sure to stay vigilant at all times, stay home when possible, and most importantly stay safe.
