In celebration of Disney’s 100th anniversary, the studio has released an enchanting new animated movie called Wish (2023).
It is full of music, song and dance and of course, a little bit of magic.
The story revolves around Asha, a young girl who wants nothing more than to make her grandfather’s wish come true.
But Magnifico, the king and a powerful sorcerer locks away the wishes of his people under the pretence of keeping them safe, granting only a handful each year (should he deem them harmless enough).
Determined to right the wrongs that has been done, Asha vows to steal back the trapped wishes.
She does so with the help of her merry band of friends, a talking goat and a wishing star.
If that hasn’t convinced you to take your kids to watch Wish (2023), here are some reasons that may just change your mind.
A Strong Female Lead
The main character, Asha, is not your typical dainty princess.
She’s a non-royal main character—proving that great adventure and destiny doesn’t just belong to royalty or chosen ones.
She is brave and smart and most of all, kind.
Selfless to a fault that she can’t stand by and watch injustice be done without doing something about it.
If there’s one Disney role model your children could stand to learn a few things from, Asha is on the top of that list.
Diverse Representation of Characters
Wish (2023) boasts an impressive ensemble of diverse characters.
The movie is full of Africans, Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic and other ethnicities of all shapes, sizes and sexes.
Moreover, one of Asha’s friends is disabled, which is a rarely seen representation in children’s movies.
This goes to show that not all Disney characters need to be of one race.
And each brings their own unique value to the story.
Dazzling Special Effects and Soundtracks
The water colour animation of the movie is nothing short of artwork.
It is subtle and vibrant and is not at all like the normal types of special effects you’ve seen in previous Disney movies.
Moreover, the movie boasts a total of seven original soundtracks.
So, your kids will definitely have a fun time singing and dancing along.
Hard-Hitting Themes of Justice and Loyalty
At the core of Wish (2023), everyone has a dream.
May it be to climb a mountain, open a dress shop or find true love.
Our deepest wish makes us who we are.
But sometimes people like King Magnifico tries to take those dreams away and dictate who we can or cannot be.
However, Asha and her friends are not about to let this happen.
This is a powerful message of hope, that no one can or should stop you from dreaming.
Wish (2023) also brings to light the theme of togetherness, of strength in numbers.
That one evil king is no match for an entire city of people banding together.
Let Wish (2023) Make Your Child’s Wish Come True
Disney’s Wish (2023) combines magic, wishes and friendship in a touching story about hope in a time of darkness.
Your kids are bound to enjoy this fun-filled movie with a brave and witty heroine and a deliciously wicked villain.
By the time the credits roll, you too will be singing yourself out of the movie theatre, heart aglow with a thousand new wishes of your own.
