One of the MOST special days of the year is Christmas Day, so it is certainly worth putting some meaning behind your plans. It is a time when we need to make sure we know the true purpose for Christmas and encourage your family to have a thoughtful celebration!

As a mother, we would probably spend months counting down the days before all those Christmas traditions that we love so much by putting up Christmas trees, shopping for gifts, making plenty of holiday craft projects, and typically getting into the Christmas spirit in every way imaginable.

Although we don’t have snow in Malaysia, the Christmas season still needs to be cherished! Festive seasons are always fun and joyful around your family, most importantly filled with great activities! Psst, don’t forget the delicious food!

Some of my friends have shared their experience after opening presents, their Christmas day got really boring. So, if you are looking for some enjoyable activities to do with your family, I got you covered!

Trust me, these lists of ideas will allow you to have a good time and you will DEFINITELY turn these activities into a tradition.

5 Joyful and Exciting Christmas Day Activities That You Must Do!

1) Watch A Christmas Movie

The best way to get into the holiday spirit is by snuggling up and watching Christmas movies, and it is never too early to start.

After all, everybody knows that one of the best parts of the season is watching a heartwarming holiday movie with a nice warm mug of hot cocoa!

Of course, along with decorating the tree and making special cookies for Christmas, there are many incredible holiday films to choose from, including family-friendly movies, cheesy-but-festive rom-coms and more (Christmas horror films, anyone?).

So pick a movie, grab some popcorn or Christmas snacks and start the movie marathon!

Here are some movies that I would recommend (kids friendly):

  5. A Christmas Story

2) Bake Christmas Cookies

What’s the best part of Christmas? I bet it’s cookies, right? There’s always an excuse to bake a batch of cookies during the holidays, whether you are baking them for a wedding, Santa or just a cosy night by the fireplace if you have one!

Baking with your family members would create excitement towards Christmas day and most importantly, develop a closer bond with each other.

As a mother, I would always suggest my friends to bake with their families and it doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to bake! Just enjoy the moment and create memories together.

When I think of Christmas, gingerbread cookies come to my mind! It fits the theme perfectly and it is easy to bake. Worry not, I got your back, Mummies!

Here is the video recipe for your guidance. What are you waiting for? Let’s get baking!

3) Make a DIY Christmas Card

A lot of families are starting to ignore their regular holiday celebrations this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many who missed the festivities or video chat for a long-distance celebration might want to add a little extra to their holiday cards.

As a mother, we would play an important role to make everyone feel a little more connected to each other by sending a Christmas card with a personal touch!

Side benefit: Many of the materials used to make DIY Christmas cards can easily be found around the house, such as wrapping paper ends or unused white buttons.

You can fill each card with a thoughtful Christmas greeting for your family and friends!

4) Secret Santa

So what is Secret Santa? I’ve had this tradition for a few years now and my children look forward to this activity the most on Christmas day!

Secret Santa is a tradition for Christmas and to become someone’s Secret Santa, members of a group of friends, relatives, or colleagues draw random names.

A wish list of gift ideas to choose from for their preferred gift is sent to The Secret Santa. The most fun part is, the giftee must guess which member of the group was their Secret Santa after opening their present.

It is a classic holiday where guessing is as much fun as receiving the gift. As a mother, you must make sure that everyone participates in the fun and no one gets left behind!

5) Decorate Christmas Trees Together

If you are decorating a Christmas tree for the very first time or you just want to change things for a fun holiday, there are decoration ideas for you to spark endless holiday inspiration, both large and small!

With a rainbow-adorned tree, you could venture to the maximalist side of the spectrum or just stick to the classics with a simple red-and-gold palette.

Christmas holiday decorations are all about evoking the joy and comfort that your own home brings during the season.

Decorating the Christmas tree together with the family is the most precious part of Christmas day. It unites all of the families together in putting the merriest looking tree!

The most exciting part is turning the lights on when the trees are finally decorated! The precious happiness in the children’s face melts my heart away. Don’t forget to put all of the wrapped presents from Secret Santa under the trees!

Remember, Christmas Day is a wonderful time to reconnect and do a wide range of different things with your family.

There is always a wide variety of choices for everybody to enjoy this time of year, and there’s always something interesting to do, no matter how old!

The most important thing is to be grateful for all of the wonderful things in life and have a Merry Christmas!
