Making Formative Years Count

In her opening speech, Hoo Ling Lee, CEO of Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur said, “Every year of a child’s life is precious, but when it comes to development, the first few are perhaps the most important. It is our earliest experiences that stick with us and continue to influence us well into adulthood.

“As parents, it is crucial that we make these formative years count in instilling healthy lifestyle habits. By making positive wellness choices a part of their upbringing, these practices can become second nature to them and ensure the next generation look forward to a thriving future.”

Learning Basic Health Tips

In conjunction with the launch, 100 children had the opportunity to play doctor for a day and learned basic health tips in a fun manner. The participants ─ aged between six and 10 ─ were brought to experience different interactive stations around the hospital. Each one corresponded with a specific medical area, like hand hygiene, emergency procedure, bodily function, human anatomy, medicine safety, and even an ambulance tour.

Proceeds from the event’s registration fee will support Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur’s A-Heart for A-Heart corporate giving initiative, which provides free medical treatment to underprivileged children affected by congenital heart disease.  More than 1,300 young patients have benefitted from the programme since its introduction in 1996.

Hoo said, “Healthy living starts from young. By making positive wellness choices a part of their upbringing, these practices can become second nature to them and ensure the next generation can look forward to a thriving future. This is one way Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur is playing its part in building resilient communities.”

While the children immersed themselves in life behind the stethoscope, their parents attended an information session with consultant family medicine specialist Dr Marieanne Sundram, who illustrated the fundamentals of child vaccination.
