For all (parents) anime lovers, you do know that some anime can be quite ‘dangerous’ to watch with your children – if you choose the wrong one?

We wouldn’t want to fast forward an episode just because of some awkward or inappropriate scenes, while watching it together with your children, right?

It has been a norm for many parents to think that anime is bad for children because it’s popular with its disproportionately-drawn anatomy of the female and male characters.

Some anime may even include subtle sexual scenes. Uh-oh!

Worry not, there’s a variety of anime to choose from that you can watch safely and enjoy with your children.

Here Are 5 Anime Suitable For Both Children And Adults To Watch:

1) Spirited Away

Let your spirit fly with this anime movie! For almost 20 years, this movie has been classified as one of the most praised anime by many.

Spirited Away is based around Chihiro, 10 years old, and her journey to save her family. She has to communicate with the spiritual realm and its interesting and often intimidating characters in the film and work side-by-side with them.

This anime teaches children to solve problems and help them to be more independent.

2) Haikyuu!

If you love volleyball and want your children to love them, too, then this anime is the perfect choice for your family.

Haikyuu is a sports anime series packed with scenes that’ll make you laugh and cry. It’s basically an anime about boys playing volleyball competitively.

In Japanese, Haikyuu specifically translates to “volleyball”. As the title implies, the essence of the game is the plot of the story and how the characters develop improvements and learn from their mistakes.

Your children will learn not to give up on their dreams and they’ll soon achieve them with determination and passion.

3) Sailor Moon

Had enough of watching Barbie on TV with your daughters? Especially for the dads, try to switch to this anime series instead! This anime started early in 1992 in Japan.

Usagi Tsukino, a middle-school girl who can transform into Sailor Moon, and other Sailor soldiers battle villains in search of the Mythical Silver Crystal. This anime puts emphasis on ‘girl power’, which is perfect for your lovely daughters!

4) The Cat Returns

If your children love cats, you probably would want to watch this anime with them!

This is an adventurous story about a high-school girl named Haru (Chizuru Ikewaki) who rescues a cat that was about to be run over by a truck and learns that the cat is actually a prince called Lune.

Haru then is brought to the cat kingdom and starts to develop feline features, while being forced to marry the cat prince.

“Always believe in yourself. Do this, and no matter where you are, you’ll have nothing to fear.”

A beautiful quote from Baron, a character in this anime that teaches viewers to not be scared of any circumstances that come their way.

5) From Up On Poppy Hill

Guess what? This is my top favourite in the list! It gives off the historical aesthetics of Japan in the 60s.

The film is set in Yokohama, Japan in 1963, tells the story of Umi Matsuzaki, a high-school girl living in a boarding house called Coquelicot Manor.

When Umi meets Shun Kazama, a member of the newspaper club at her school, they plan to tidy up the clubhouse together.

The chairman of their high school and also a businessman, however, plans to demolish the building for reconstruction, and Umi and Shun must convince him to reconsider.

There you go, now you and your children can watch these entertaining and wholesome anime without worries. Remember to always supervise the shows and movies that your children are watching, parents!
