Having a Baby in the Year of the Wood Snake? This Is for You!

2025 marks the year of the snake, a time of wisdom, transformation and flexibility.

And for many young parents, a time of new beginnings.

There will no doubt be a fair share of mums and dads who are expecting little ones this year.

For those who want to ensure a prosperous future for their child, tapping into the luck of the Wood Snake can make all the difference.

But before that, let’s explore the nature of the Wood Snake and what energies this year may bring to those born under its auspicious blessing.

What Is the Wood Snake?

As we all know, there are twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac, each with their own unique characteristics and fortunes.

But based on the principle of Chinese metaphysics, there are also 5 elements: wood, water, fire, metal and earth.

2025 falls in the zodiac sign of the Snake, but it is also ruled by the Wood element.

This combination blends together the cunning and mystery of the Snake sign and the growing abundance of the Wood element.

No doubt your own child will be endowed with these qualities.

Popular culture may make us fear snakes, but in Chinese mythology, snakes are both wise and powerful.

They symbolise rebirth and resurrection, seeing as how they shed their skin ever so often.

Their coiling bodies also point to a remarkable capacity for flexibility and resilience.

This year calls for us to both let go of old patterns and habits that no longer serve us, whilst at the same time learning to bend and adapt to circumstances better.

The theme of this year is ‘quiet strategy’. Waiting and biding your time until you find the perfect moment to strike.

Qualities of a Wood Snake Child

Snakes are private creatures by design. They value their privacy and their secrets.

You may try hard to figure out exactly what goes on inside their heads but they’ll have no trouble reading your mind.

Gifted with strong intuition, Snakes use their sixth sense to navigate the world around them.

So, don’t be surprised if your little one notices little details about things that you yourself are not aware of.

However, with the element of Wood influencing them as well, your Snake child will also be gifted with remarkable creativity. They may also be eager to explore and push boundaries.

Much like roots of a tree that grows invisibly underground, your child may pursue their interests and hone their talents in secret.

And before you know it, they are already a pro at playing the piano while you weren’t even looking.

It’s important to satisfy your little one’s intellectual curiosity and craving for knowledge, while also giving them plenty of privacy and respecting their boundaries.

While secretive and mysterious, Snakes can be loyal and vicious to anyone who would hurt their loved ones.

Choosing A Name for Your Snake Baby

Names are powerful things in the Chinese culture.

They can be a source of great prosperity or a source of great misfortune.

That is why Chinese parents take great care in choosing the name of their newborn.

For those babies born in 2025, it is essential to use names that correspond to or represent the influence of the snake.

Here are some examples:

Chinese characters with the radicals of ‘木’ (meaning: Tree) for example: 木、本、杰、杏、杉、材、东、林、松、etc.

These are auspicious because snakes like to climb trees, which symbolises an upgrade to a Dragon.

Chinese characters with the radicals which look like the Snake are also auspicious. These include 辶,  廴, 弓, 走, 几, 己, 虫 , 邑 etc.

Most parents consult a priest or astrologer who can properly figure out the correct syllables and sounds to use in their child’s name.

Other Lucky Things for a Wood Snake

There are plenty of ways to increase one’s luck in the upcoming Year of the Snake – including averting any bad or evil energy that may come.

For babies, they need all the protection they can get.

For expectant parents who are still decorating their baby’s nursery, the easiest to add a lucky element is colour.

Lucky colours for Snakes (regardless of their ruling element) are black, red and yellow.

But for the year 2025, an extra colour is added for Wood Snakes: Blue.

Lucky numbers include 2, 8 and 9, along with all their permutations (28, 29, etc).

You can incorporate this into the decor of their nursery. Perhaps buying only 9 toys, or hanging a mobile with 8 objects.

As for plants, Snakes draw luck from orchids and cacti.

For safety purposes, it’s better if you choose the former. Try and find those with petals in your child’s lucky colours.

Lucky directions include east, west, and southwest so you may want to consider placing your child’s crib facing these points as they will bring in plenty of prosperity.

Protection from Harm

According to Chinese beliefs, babies are especially prone to sickness and to the disturbances of evil spirits.

It’s important to line your house and your child’s nursery with protective items to keep out these negative energies.

To minimise the bad luck, you can put lots of red in your little one’s nursery and put jade jewellery on them.

Red is not only a protective colour but it also represents vitality, good fortune and luck.

Place a pixiu (a powerful protective creature in Chinese mythology) statue in your nursery.

These often come in palm-sized figurines that you can add as decor on tables.

Speaking of colours, avoid the unlucky colours of gold, white and brown as much as you can.

Just like with lucky directions, each zodiac sign also has their own unlucky directions.

For Snakes, these include northeast and northwest.

So, avoid placing their crib or other important items in these directions.

Ensuring A Prosperous Start for Your Little One

Doing these small things to boost your newborn’s good fortune doesn’t have to be a chore.

You can start slowly incorporating the elements into your child’s nursery in the months leading up to their arrival

If you feel like you can afford it, consult a priest or professional metaphysical expert to truly help maximise your child’s luck and mitigate any unlucky elements that they may experience in their environment.

With any luck, they’ll be set up for an auspicious life for many decades to come.

Congratulations on having your Wood Snake baby, parents!
