The pandemic has caught us all off-guard. We are now living in the new normal. For me, that means spending more time at home. With so much time in my hand, I turn to gardening to keep me occupied.
Not only it is therapeutic, it is also beneficial when I get to harvest the fruit of my labour.
One of the most prized plants growing in my garden is the aloe vera. When made into a drink, it is not only refreshing, it has numerous health benefiting properties too.
Aloe vera is a cactus-like succulent plant and is relatively easy to care for. It doesn’t require much watering and thrives with lots of direct sunlight – perfect for our climate.
Aloe is a common ingredient in lotions and cosmetics and is also available for oral use. For oral consumption, the aloe vera gel is used.
Aloe vera provides complete nourishment to our body. It is loaded with a bevy of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Taken regularly, this beauty and health elixir will keep us refreshed especially on a hot, sunny day.
The Benefits
Boosts Immunity
Aloe vera contains micro-nutrients that help fight against free radical damage, boosting the body’s immunity; an ideal concoction for today’s challenging times.
Promotes Digestion and Eliminates Toxin
Aloe vera juice helps to maintain the ‘good’ bacteria in our gut to improve digestion and the feeling of bloated or gassiness.
The high fibre in the aloe gel also helps to boost the water content in our intestines, making it easier for us to flush out toxin.
Consuming aloe vera drink in the morning aids in digestive issues to clean the system.
Loaded with Vitamins and Minerals
Aloe vera is packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants essential for our body. The only thing missing from aloe vera is Vitamin D, which we can easily get from the early morning sun.
Anti-inflammation
For topical application, aloe vera juice is excellent to relieve skin from sunburn.
A well-maintained immune system can keep various health-related ailments at bay. Hence, I will be sharing a recipe of a simple yet healthy aloe vera drink potion.
