In these trying times of COVID-19, your kids’ sleepovers with friends are currently put on hold. A bummer for the kids. Despite having to reschedule parties and mummies trying to balance their own hectic schedules, the fun would not stop here as more and more families are starting to spend more time together, especially the school holidays.

Fret not, we have lots of ideas that we would like to share with busy mummies to keep the fun going. When it comes to planning something fun and creative like a slumber party for the kids, this is how you do it for your next family movie night:

How To Host A Slumber Party?

Slumber parties can be fun but without proper preparation, they can be a complete chaos. So, what should be your priorities in planning a successful one?

1. Choose a date

First of all, mummies have to decide on the most important thing: A date for the party. You should pick out a date which favours both kids and adults. It must not be during the school day or working day as the party usually ends after breakfast on the next day.

2. Determine the space

You have to determine the space to carry out each activity, such as where your guests will be watching movies, having meals, and sleeping. Or if you decide to have more than one activity at the same place, you would need to have a clear idea on how to arrange and organise things accordingly.

Just make sure you have enough space and necessities for all the activities, such as tissues, blankets, pillows, etc.. Yes, you did leave a note reminding them to bring their own items in the invitation but in case they forgot, it would not be a hassle for you.

3. List the guests

Mummies would have to agree on how many guests that are coming. Suggestively, the number should be small. Well, you have to be realistic about the space in your house and your capability to handle all the kids, right?

Usually, kids would invite a few of their close relatives and friends. Here, the quality is equally as important as the quantity. Choose those who you and your kids are comfortable with. Let’s keep the circle small and special!

4. Decide on the activities

As your guests are kids, you would need to decide on the activities that are suitable for them. Apart from that, you would want to determine that based on other factors as well like take for example, the intensity of the activity.

Choose the sort of activity that does not require a lot of energy and excite your young guests too much. You would not want the kids to be pumped up with adrenaline and having difficulty to sleep later, wouldn’t you?

Well, if you are looking for something entertaining, engaging, and suitable for all ages, how about playing charades? You can divide your guests into two teams with each team striving to collect the most points to be declared as the winner.

Then, how about watching kid-friendly movies surrounded with soft plushies in a dimly-lit living room? Do note that your choice of movie is important as well. Mummies should choose film genres that are suitable for young viewers. Or better yet, pick the one that is the current sensation. Trust us, they will surely enjoy it!

Also, do not forget to dim the lights as it would help them to relax and get in the mood to sleep later on.

If watching movies is not your cup of tea, you can opt for other options, such as telling bedtime stories. It is always fun listening to stories before going to sleep.

5. Plan out the meals

Another essential thing that mummies need to do is to decide on the meals. There are a few aspects that you would need to consider and one of them is food intolerance. You have to take note of all your guests’ diet and food intake, in order to pick out the best meals.

The number of times you might need to serve your guests is probably three. First, a proper meal for dinner. Then, some snacks and hot chocolate drinks during the activities. And lastly, a light breakfast in the morning on the next day.

You should avoid certain foods like heavy meals, sugary snacks, and junk food. It is best if you pick the ones that are healthy and tasty. The same goes with drinks. Try to avoid any caffeinated beverages, soft drinks, and those with added colouring and artificial flavours. Fruit juice, for example, can be your perfect choice!

6. Create a tentative plan

After you have decided on everything, mummies should create a tentative plan for a clearer picture of the party. Make sure to include everything as every little detail matters, such as the time and duration for each slumber party activity. This is to ensure that the party will go smoothly as planned.

Remember to write down the rules for the party. Just so that everyone is clear on what they can and cannot do.
