Childcare Centre Abuse: How to Choose a Safe Childcare Centre

A video of a closed-circuit recording has recently gone viral.

In it, a female caretaker can be seen hitting a child when he was eating.

So, what exactly happened?

‘No Parent Would Want to See It’

The incident took place in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, as reported by The Star,

‘No parent would want to see their child treated that way’, the father of the child stated.

The parents lodged a police report, and the boy is currently being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Though this case has shocked the nation, it’s a case among cases.

Nancy Shukri stated in a reading earlier this year that ‘there were a total of 336 abuse cases between 2021 and 2022’.

In 2022 alone, a total of 679 males and 622 female children were abused.

Multiple Options, Too Little Answers

Children need the utmost attention the moment they’re born until they’re three years old.

Health issues may develop if they’re neglected.

The average Malaysian spends about 7.5 hours at work.

Due to this, we aren’t free to take care of our own children.

So the easiest method is to send your child to someone else.

You may send your child to your parents, or to your relatives.

But not all parents are able to take care of your child due to their old age.

And not all relatives are willing to take care of them.

Ensure Safety for Your Child

Choose childcare centres that are bright in colour, from the murals to the furniture.

But don’t let those get you distracted.

Ensure to inspect the place upon visitation.

Does it have safety devices, such as closed-circuit cameras?

Are the children there relaxed and busy?

Moreover, do they look comfortable with the space provided?

Lastly, it should be clean, of course.

Full-Time Attention

First things first, the caretakers must be alert.

For example, their eyes are glued to the children at all times.

Secondly, ideally, they should be in close proximity to the children.

For example, they’re standing up close with them and not from a far distance.

If you notice that they’re distracted, skip the place immediately.

Child Safety Is Always Top Priority

As parents, we always want the best for our children. Both in terms of care and safety.

And choosing the perfect childcare centre no doubt is one of them.

But with these tips, hopefully you’ll find the right one for your child.

Keep an eye out there, parents! You’ve got this!
