Now that our daily activities have resumed to normal with adults going back to work and kids back at school, we’re using more masks than ever. What’s more, the government has made it compulsory to wear one in crowded public places. Even if it’s not compulsory, it just makes good sense to wear one anyway.
Whilst a mask a day keeps the virus away, a disposable one may contribute to plastic pollution. Yep! Over time, plastic waste eventually enters our oceans and waterways, and becomes toxic sponges; accumulating toxic chemicals in the water at a staggering rate. This is obviously dangerous to fish and aquatic life. So, when it comes to masks, a good and sustainable first approach would be choosing reusable masks.
And with that reason, we have made a switch to cloth masks, but without compromising on the safety and effectiveness of the masks by choosing safe and breathable ones. Granted, they cost me RM25 each, but I would rather splurge a little more on safe cloth masks than to make do with questionable masks.

Sunway Malls’ Mask-On Campaign
I have special likings for shopping malls that support sustainability. Sunway Malls certainly has my respect in this area. To honour their commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Sunway Malls is launching a Mask-On Campaign.
During this campaign, shoppers can redeem eco-friendly and reusable fabric masks. Together, Sunway Malls and its patrons help to reduce wastage. This is a great initiative, as I was horrified that in Malaysia alone, we are throwing out over 10 million face masks a day. So, kudos to Sunway Malls for this sustainable effort!
Besides caring for the environment, Sunway Malls is also committed to the safety of all its customers. These protective face masks have been certified by reputable inspection corporations for anti-bacterial and anti-odour effectiveness. They’re made with 99.94% anti-bacterial effectiveness anti-microbial fabric, which protects us from the spread of viruses and bacteria.
For added protection, the masks come with a filter slot. With this additional filter slot, it’s quite assuring that it’s safe and effective, even for our children’s use. Yes, these masks come in both adult and kids’ sizes!
They’re also made with comfort and breathability in mind. The outer layer is made with propriety washable knitted fabric, and the inner layer is made with soft-style cotton that absorbs heat emitted from the body.
To further help keep our masks uncontaminated, each mask comes with a matching mask holder to store when not in use. That’s a nice and thoughtful gesture.

- Huawei users only need to spend a minimum of RM200 in 2 receipts to redeem the same deal.
Sunway Velocity — The Renaissance Globe (27 August–9 September 2020)
- Spend RM200 in 2 receipts (RM150 for Sunway Pals or Sunway Velocity Mall mobile app users or VeloKiddie members) to redeem an adult’s face mask and holder.
- Kid’s mask redemption available for VeloKiddie members only. A maximum of 3 redemptions a day per customer is allowed.
Sunway Putra — The Sun-Drop Diamond (14–31 August 2020)
- Spend RM150 in 1 receipt to redeem a face mask and a mask holder.
- New Putra Junior Club or Autsome Members will only need to spend RM100 in 1 receipt to redeem a kid’s face mask and a holder.
Sunway Carnival Mall — The Astute Cube (14–31 August 2020)
- Spend RM250 in a minimum of 2 receipts to redeem a face mask and a mask holder.
Sunway Big Box Retail Park — The Astute Cube (14–31 August 2020)
- Spend RM200 in 4 receipts to redeem a face mask and a mask holder. A maximum of 2 NSK receipts is accepted per redemption.

- Spend RM200 in 2 receipts to redeem a face mask and a mask holder.
