2. Glue Batik

This tried and tested method is a favourite amongst crafters. Batik is essentially a textile made by hands where artisans use wax to create a design and then dye the cloth, which resists the vegetable dyes.

This wax-resist fabric dyeing technique originates from Indonesia.

Traditional batik is made by using wax but in this easy DIY kid-friendly project, kids substitute hot wax for Elmer’s blue glue and unleash their creativity by choosing images that represent themselves, and colourful paints that reflect their personalities.

Perfect for kids!

This DIY Glue Batik T-Shirt project is a really fun and easy craft idea to make with both little kids and teenagers alike.

The key to making a DIY Glue Batik T-Shirt is Elmer’s Blue Gel Glue. You MUST use this glue in this t-shirt project for it to turn out right.

You will also probably need to set aside two days to make this batik shirt because you will need the blue gel glue to dry completely before dying it in the colour of your choice.

100% white cotton works best when selecting a t-shirt to use, so the dye will set properly. It is also a great idea to only let adults or mature older kids do the dying process. This would be a fun shirt to make during a party or sleepover with a bunch of kids.

The cool thing is you can also make glue batik cushion covers!

Safety Tips and Hints

Young kids should always be supervised around open containers of water.  If you use a blow dryer to dry the glue, keep it away from water.

3. Pantry Bug Buster and Scented Drawer Sachet

Oooh…I just LOVE these little pockets of heavenly scents! They smell great AND keep the bugs away!

These pantry bug busters and drawer fresheners are a simple and cost-friendly way to add a fresh clean scent to your dresser drawers or linen closets.

Living in a humid and hot country can increase pest activity in your pantry. Most of these insects are of tropical or semi-tropical origin. They tend to live and breed best under warm, humid conditions, which are often found in kitchen cupboards and pantries.

One of the characteristics of these types of insects is that most do not hibernate with continuous reproduction throughout the year.

What does this mean? Populations can build up rapidly if they are left undisturbed.

  • The Filling

Did You Know? Depending on the essential oils used, you can create a sachet for keeping drawers, cupboards, and wardrobes smelling fresh, or a bug buster sachet for keeping your pantries free from ants, weevils, and other insects. Read more here!

Better yet, there are recipes which incorporate essential oils into the mix, many of which contain antimicrobial properties. The antibacterial and antifungal oils help to attack the stink at the root cause.

And of course, you can make them with totally natural ingredients, and they are reusable!

That is AWESOME! (Pssst…they are great for gym bags!)

This pantry bug busters and scented drawer fresheners make such great and practical handmade gifts that your recipients will start asking you for the recipes!

The scent options are endless! Do not forget that you can use these sachets to scent your car, bedroom, and even the bathroom!

You can customise these cute little sachets to your liking, but feel free to use a little more of this and a little less of that so that your Christmas scent is just PERFECT for you!

4. Clay Saucer Coaster with Decor Transfers

These saucer coasters are so cool! They have a vintage and rustic feel just by the look of them.

Who does not need a coaster? Be it for coffee, tea, beer, wine, or any other type of beverages, everyone drinks something every day, and they will need someplace to set it down or risk moisture on getting on their furniture.

So, don’t you think they will make pretty and useful gifts? I can guarantee they would not have received these before!

The idea is to repurpose inexpensive clay saucers into pretty French terracotta coasters using decor transfers.

The best part is you can use decor transfers on flower pots, furniture, and lots of other things!

Instead of stencilling or hand painting the details, which will take so much more time, in fact, days and weeks, these deco transfers will instantly add charm and character in just an afternoon.

You can also paint the clay saucer coasters like the flower pots below!

5. Glitter Ball Yarn Ornament

I can never fall out of love with these glitter ball yarn ornaments. They are so PRETTY and so much fun to make!

They are pretty, sparkly, and a super affordable way to make homemade Christmas ornaments. All it takes are some yarn, some white glue, a balloon – AND LOADS OF GLITTER!

Sure, some of us might get intimidated by glitter or just the messy part of it. There is really nothing to worry about because the glitter is stuck in the glue, so it will not end up everywhere.

Well…except for the random fleck that might end up on your forehead after doing a glitter craft as the usual case with me.

Keychains are not something that we change often. And when we do, it is usually when the one that we have on us needs to be replaced.

Worse, some do not even have a keychain at all. What they probably have are those cheap plastic tags with a ring that holds the keys together.
