Emergency? We’ve Got You Covered (Part 1): A Comprehensive List of Hospitals in Klang Valley

Accidents happen, at the most unexpected time. To aid Mums and Dads out there, we have compiled a list of medical providers in the Klang Valley, who may be able to provide medical assistance over weekends, or Public Holidays.

The list is not exhaustive, but we hope it proves beneficial in your time of need. All information is correct at time of publication. However, it would be best to call ahead and check if the help you need is on hand, just in case.

Type of Common Emergencies

For any accidents or emergencies, heading straight to the nearest hospital is the most prudent move. These are a few of the common emergencies:

Falls

Falls which cause head injuries, loss of consciousness, or disorientation, are medical emergencies. The same applies for falls which cause fractures.

Some fractures are obvious.

However, deep bruising, accompanied by an inability to move the injured limb, may point to a fracture, as well.

High Fever

If your child’s fever does not come down, in spite of medication, wipe downs, and increased fluids, a visit to the ER would be advisable.

In some children, uncontrolled fever causes febrile fits. While very frightening to parents, it usually does not have any lasting impact on the child. Nevertheless, a trip to the hospital would be best, to clear any anxieties you may have.

Difficulty Breathing

If your child suffers from asthma, is wheezing, and presents difficulty breathing, it would be advisable to head to the hospital. This is especially so if her condition does not improve in spite of medication.

Likewise, if your child is choking, urgent medical attention is necessary. Any blue tinge on her lips points to a lack of oxygen. She needs medical attention, fast.

A Mother’s Intuition

A mother’s intuitive sense should never be taken for granted.

If you are worried, or unsettled, and baby is not well, you may be on to something as infants, and children cannot express themselves well. Many Mums have wrested their children out of harm’s way, from sheer intuition.

As such, overreacting may be a boon, rather than an inconvenience.

Emergency Room Visits

Emergency Departments,  in both Government and private hospitals, are open 24 hours.

While Government hospitals do get some bad press out there, they are, in fact, very good. Doctors, and nurses who staff these hospitals are well trained. Specialists, when required, are the best the country has to offer.

If an emergency strikes, they are the best place to be.

Private Hospitals

In addition to Government hospitals, private ones abound as well. Our list is not exhaustive, but we hope it proves helpful. Chances are, you have one, two, or even more, nearby.

Many private hospitals are part of a chain, serving the public throughout the Klang Valley.

All private hospitals have Paediatricians on call for emergencies. However, he will only be notified if the situation is serious.  As a parent, you may request for him but, bear in mind that the charges can be prohibitive.

Usually, incoming patients at the Emergency Room are handled by the Medical Officer (MO). He will decide if the Paediatrician needs to be called in.

Once the emergency is contained, the MO will refer her to the Paediatrician for a follow up the next day, unless she is admitted. On admission, she will be placed under the care of the Paediatrician on call.
