Malaysia Gets Top Spot in Best Healthcare Category

Healthcare is one of the most important aspects of a country as it affects many layers of society, no matter adults or children. Good, affordable healthcare services is vital as it leads to a healthier and more fulfilling life.

Malaysia ranks number one in the Healthcare category of International Living’s Annual Global Retirement Index 2019. With a score of 95 out of 100, Malaysia tops the list. The countries listed are considered to have healthcare that is good in both cost and quality. The list takes into account countries which are able to provide first-rate care, top-class service and is affordable.

Good Healthcare Infrastructure

According to International Living, the healthcare in Malaysia is world class with up-to-date and sophisticated infrastructure. There are a total of 13 healthcare centres in Malaysia accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), four of which are in Kuala Lumpur and two in Penang. JCI is said to be the gold standard in worldwide healthcare assessment. The JCI identifies and measures the best practices in patient safety, according to its website. It also works with healthcare organisations and health agencies to help achieve peak performance in patient care.

Furthermore, many doctors in Malaysia are trained in the UK, US, or Australia, which means that communication in English is generally not an issue. Malaysia is noted to be a top medical tourist destination. Next, it said that expats can choose from private and public hospitals depending on their needs. Private hospitals tend to be pricier compared to public hospitals. However, the standards there are higher.

“You don’t need an appointment to see a specialist, and you don’t need a referral from a GP. It’s as simple as registering at a hospital of your choice and waiting in line to see your specialist of choice.”, it said. In the overall list of the best countries to retire to, Malaysia comes in at number five in the list of ten.
