Two 18-year old students from Beaconhouse Sri Inai International School, Petaling Jaya have once again placed Malaysia on the global academic map by achieving top honours in this internationally recognised award.
Recently, Teng Yee Shean and Hassan Bin Azhar have both been crowned Top in Malaysia by Cambridge Assessment International Education for Business Studies and Geography respectively.
They both received their respective awards by gaining the highest standard marks in the country for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) for the November 2019 examinations.
Speaking about her momentous achievement, Yee Shean said, “This is an amazing honour! Business has always been my passion even though I am still only just a student. To be named the very best in the country is such a great feeling and really motivates me to continue working my hardest to achieve great things in the future.”
The Cambridge IGCSE is an internationally recognized exam that provides students with the opportunity to a prestigious international qualification. Last year, more than 1 million students participated in Cambridge International-based examinations from over 10,000 schools around the world, including the UK, the USA, China, India, Singapore, and Malaysia.
“I am absolutely ecstatic to have been named the Top in Malaysia for Geography. To be honest looking back, I never would have thought that I would take such a liking to the subject or that I would receive such recognition for my efforts. There was a lot of tough competition but now, all that effort has paid off! I look forward to keeping this great momentum going as I further my studies,” said Hassan.
The Beaconhouse Sri Inai International School, where both of them got their education has been producing prestigious Cambridge Award-winning students for multiple years running as well.
This marks the latest in a string of Outstanding Cambridge Learners Awards achievements for Beaconhouse Sri Inai International School over the past several years. This includes Andrew Nge Jing Shuen clinching the coveted Top in the World award for Mathematics and Additional Mathematics in 2019.
In 2018, alumnus Bryan Chow Wei Ming was crowned Top in the World for Mathematics, whilst Sneha Sherchan was named Top in Malaysia for Global Perspectives.
Speaking about the achievement, Nicki Coombs, Executive Principal for Beaconhouse Sri Inai International School said, “We are incredibly proud of Hassan and Yee Shean’s achievements, beating the competition for such a highly contested award is no easy feat.
Their achievements are not only commendable they are highly relevant as well. As this world becomes a smaller place by the day through digital connectivity, having a firm grasp on global geography and business are key elements to succeed in the world of tomorrow.”
“To achieve these awards off the back of last year’s success is truly a testament to the quality of our teachers and the effectiveness of our approach to education. We believe that our focused approach to holistic learning coupled with experienced and passionate educators played a vital role in these successes. We look forward to forging an even greater future by moulding the leaders of tomorrow through our top education approach today,” added Nicki.
