Many parents are burdened by the costs of welcoming their child into the world and this will continue given that medical inflation rate of 20% that hit Malaysia in 2016 is expected to rise further moving forward.
With that, we believe you should carefully plan your budget and be prepared for your upcoming bills if you are expecting a baby soon. For those who might not be aware, AIA Bhd’s research report last year revealed that raising a child can costs between RM440,000 to RM1.1 million including pregnancy, delivery costs, and education.

During the nine months period, you will have to start preparing funds for monthly check-ups and ultrasound scans. Though medical costs have gone up over the past few years especially after the introduction of GST, you can still gain access to cheap or free medical attention from local government clinics and hospitals.
For instance, Klinik Kesihatan Ibu & Anak which is owned and operated by the government allows mothers to get free medical checkups with anti-tetanus injection. However, if you skip the long queue, you can get a medical check-up from the specialist clinic or private hospital by paying about RM200 per visit.

Depending on your preference and birth condition, it is safe to say that you will need to prepare at least RM 10,000 to RM 15,000 in order to welcome your child with the help of the experts at any of these hospitals. However, you can always refer to local general hospitals funded by our government and request for more information on the costs.
If you have a problem in funding for your child, you can always compare loans for medical bills and get the fund you need to cover the baby delivery costs.
On top of that, you will need to take into consideration of the daily necessities and education costs you will need in the near future as your child grows. You can check out for more information on these costs here and have a clearer guideline on how much do you need to raise a child in Malaysia.
