Sexual intercourse is important for the success of any marriage.
It’s more than just a way to reproduce.
Great sex fosters better communication, trust and satisfaction between couples.
But for many women, achieving this, especially after marriage (and more so after motherhood), can be difficult.
But researchers at the Missouri State University are here for the rescue!
They recently conducted a study to find out factors that contribute to above average intercourse.
They interviewed 78 sexually active participants of varying ages, backgrounds and sexual orientations to answer the age-old question: What’s the secret to great sex?
Lead author Alicia M. Walker, an associate professor of sociology at MSU says that your idea of what makes sex great may be different than your partner’s.
This is what makes it so hard to find an all-encompassing, ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to help couples perform better in bed.
Without the intervention of a sex therapist to create a tailored ‘regimen’, that is.
Moreover, one partner’s idea of ‘great sex’ may not align with the other’s.
You might be having the time of your life, but your partner may just be faking it.
But despite these challenges, the study yielded promising results. Consolidating common themes given by participants.
The results boiled down to three ingredients: orgasm, emotional connection and chemistry.
Sounds like a no-brainer, right?
But you’d be surprised how many couples fail to achieve one let alone all three of these requirements.
Which may be why there can be so much frustration and resentment that boils over into other parts of the marriage.
“The more we talk openly about our sexual needs and expectations, the greater likelihood our experiences meet our expectations.”
– Alicia M. Walker, associate professor of sociology at MSU
So, at the end of the day, it’s probably not a general rule of thumb of 1+1=2 when it comes to great sex.
The three ingredients mentioned above provide a helpful blue print to get started. Like how you need chocolate, milk and sugar to make hot cocoa.
But the add-ins are probably where it’s at, the cinnamon and vanilla, and espresso and marshmallows if you’re feeling extra spicy.
So, remember to communicate your needs and wants in the bedroom, mums!
It may just be the secret ingredient to the recipe of great sex you’ve been looking for.
