Yes, it may seems surprising to the most of us but it can happen. To explain the situation, Le Le is a four years old Chinese little girl living in Linquan County located in East China. Staying with her grandparents in the beginning of each year, she played with a rubber band. At one point the child decided to put this rubber band around her arm. Time goes on and the grandparents started noticing something unusual around their grandchild’s arm. They decided to carry Le Le to a hospital. However, the doctors had hard time figuring what the problem was. They finally told to the family that it was certainly due to an infection or an allergy.

But, it got worse

The family followed doctor’s instructions but Le Le’s condition got worse nevertheless. Her parents then decided to go to Hangzhou Children’s Hospital, to have her checked again. The doctor, that later declared having seen this case only twice in 20 years of exercise, immediately figured the situation out. The family after a brief from the medical staff was a bit shocked and did not understood how it was possible but let the hospital staff taking care of the problem.

The incredible reveal

The medical team chose to scans Lele’s arm. With the results they finally understood that something external was indeed under the child’s skin. Then, they decided to perform a surgery to the child.  And what a surprise for the family when they saw the outcome,  the doctors had extracted a big rubber band as you can see on the picture above.
Doctor Ye after seeing this case wanted to warn other parents by saying “Some elders also like to tie thin red strings around children’s necks, wrists or fingers for good luck, but the practice comes with risks. Thin strings and elastic bands can easily be concealed in the flaps of the child’s skin.”

You should be careful parents if your child is playing with rubber bands, even if it’s an infrequent situation, there’s always a small risk.
