Recently, The Daily School Management Division of the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) just announced and confirmed the date for reopening of schools for both primary and secondary schools in Malaysia.
According to the Minister of Education’s statement, the official opening date for the 2021 school session for the entire state after the 2020 holidays is as follows:
Official Date of 2021 Statewide School Session (After Year End Holidays)
January 20, 2021 (Wednesday)
- All primary school students and form one, form four, form five and form six students, as well as all vocational college students, will begin the school session face to face.
- Form two and form three students will start the school session on the same date but at home-based learning according to the suitability of teachers. On March 8, 2021, they will return to school for a face-to-face learning session.
Through the latest updates, the Ministry of Health of Malaysia (MOE) will hold a meeting with the Ministry of Education of Malaysia (MOE) on 9 June 2020, through the information of the Director General of Health, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, to address the appropriate reopening period for schools.
To enable preparations to be made, parents will be informed TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE before the school opens and priority will be given to Form Five and Form Six students to attend the delayed school session since last March.
The MOE sets the school’s opening later according to the 2021 Term Calendar and School Holidays as follows:

School Reopening Dates For 2020 by State
To recall, here are the full opening dates of the school in stages for the year 2020 – based on the MOE Media Conference back in July 2020 as reported by The Coverage.
1) Not A Public Examination Class
School operations for year 5 and 6 students, as well as form 1 to 4 students and transition classes, started on 15 July (Wednesday) and year 1 to year 4 students started school, a week later, on July 22.
The reopening date of this school applies to all government schools, government aided schools, private schools and any educational institution registered with the Ministry of Education (MOE).

- Level 6 (Semester 1)
- Levels 1 to 4
- Years 5 and 6
On July 22, 2020, for students:
- Years 1 to 4
2) Public Examination Class
The government has previously announced the important dates for the opening of secondary schools for all states in Malaysia after the completion of CMCO, which is divided into two groups – respectively Group A & B, as follows:
GROUP A
Schools in the states where the weekend takes place on Fridays and Saturdays are as follows:
- Kelantan, Kedah, Terengganu & Johor
Date School Opened
- 24 June 2020, Wednesday – For public examination classes only, namely Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia SPM, Malaysian vocational certificate SVM, STPM, Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia STAM.
GROUP B
Schools located in states where weekends are on Saturdays & Sundays are as follows: –
- Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya & Labuan, Selangor, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Sabah & Sarawak.

- 24 June 2020, Wednesday – For public examination classes only, namely SPM, STPM, SVM, STAM
