Sports Tax Relief for a Healthier Generation

Let’s talk about sports tax relief and why it is important, especially for the children of Malaysia.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, stated that many parents may benefit from it.

If the tax relief is approved, the cost of sports lessons will decrease.

And many parents are glad if this were to happen.

Because, though many know of the importance of sports, we also can’t avoid the expense of the classes.

Depending on the company, a month’s swimming lesson can range from RM150 to RM380.

While archery lessons can range from RM25 to RM58 an hour.

So, it’s understandable why parents are happy when this tax relief is proposed.

Why Sports Is Important

Playing sports is important, in general.

It can make our bodies fit and feel confident.

Besides the physical benefits, sports are also beneficial for our mental health.

As we play sports, our brain releases the ‘happy hormone’ called endorphins.

With the presence of endorphins, stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol will be lowered.

Children are, in fact, often prone to stress.

This is due to their school activities, such as homework and co-curriculum.

So, when they play sports, they’re able to ‘vent’ out their stress.

Inactivity in Children

There are many factors contributing to why children in Malaysia are inactive, and it’s not just the cost of lessons.

One of which is the usage of their gadgets.

On average, Malaysians use 7.5 hours of their gadgets per day.

In a study done by ProxyRack, Malaysia is ranked third in Net usage.

Besides gadget usage, most of the children are busy with school.

They’re accustomed to homework, co-curriculum, and examinations.

Due to this, they don’t have the spare time to play sports.

Lastly, there is their lack of exposure to sports.

Nowadays, some children immediately use smartphones as they grow up.

They feel relaxed as they lounge and watch their cartoons or games.

And because of this, they may perceive sports as tiring and not favour them.

Keep Them Moving

Playing sports is vital to a child’s growth and development.

They’re able to learn many things, such as sportsmanship and working in a team.

As parents, we know how happy we are to see our children thrive.

And with the implication of the Sports Tax Relief, there’s a bright hope for the future generation.
