Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) recently hosted an all-women retreat called ‘The Glow Retreat: Unwind and Rejuvenate’ at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
Held in conjunction with International Women’s Day, the retreat welcomed 50 participants, including SMCV patients, key opinion leaders (KOLs), media representatives, as well as members of the public comprising winners of SMCV’s social media giveaway.
Ms Susan Cheow, Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Medical Centre Velocity, shared that SMCV viewed this retreat as an opportunity to celebrate and honour the strength, resilience, and accomplishments of women from different walks of life. “Women seamlessly juggle multifaceted roles in life, whether as mothers, sisters, wives, or professionals. Through this retreat, we would like to acknowledge the tireless efforts of these hardworking women, who wear multiple hats and contribute significantly to society,” she said.
At The Glow Retreat, participants enjoyed an array of different activities designed to allow them to wind down from their busy everyday routines and renourish their bodies and minds.
This included a meditation and sound healing session conducted by Jojo Struys, the retreat’s emcee, wellness personality and founder of OhanaJo Studio, as well as aromatherapy perfume and candle-making workshops facilitated by organic skincare brand, Claire Organics.
Focusing on women’s holistic wellbeing, SMCV organised wellness sharing sessions led by its consultants.
Dr Farah Leong Rahman, Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist and Fertility Specialist, emphasised the significance of self-care for women.
She noted, “Women often lead such busy lives that they may overlook the importance of their own health, both physically and mentally. However, through retreats and activities like this, we are able to gather remarkable women together to raise awareness and educate them on the importance of prioritising their wellbeing.”
Dr Farah also highlighted the importance of addressing women’s health comprehensively by discussing topics that are often neglected, such as vaginal health.
She explained that despite its importance, many women tend to overlook this aspect of their wellbeing.
Led alongside Dr Wong Yen Shi, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, both consultants emphasised the significant role of vaginal health in overall wellbeing, with the aim of breaking the taboo surrounding the topic.
Meanwhile, Dr Ryan Tee Chun Keat, SMCV’s Consultant Psychiatrist, called attention to the importance of carving out alone time for self-care.
Additionally, Dr Irene Lee Chew Kek, Consultant Dermatologist, shed light on the effects of hormones on skin health.
Further enhancing the experience, participants also had the chance to explore colour theory and discover palettes that complement them best in a Colour Analysis Workshop led by Style by OSH.
Additionally, Elixir, Japan’s No 1 anti-aging skincare brand and participating partner, conducted a sharing session on skin health and a demonstration for the participants.
In recognition of the participants’ endurance, determination, and commitment as women, SMCV also surprised the participants with a complimentary spa voucher for a full body massage treatment at UR SPA by The RuMa Hotel and Residences, enabling them to indulge in well-deserved ‘me time’ at their convenience.
The Glow Retreat also marked the launch of SMCV’s “Empowering Women Campaign,” a two-month-long campaign featuring initiatives such as promotions on women’s health screening packages and the rollout of the ‘HealthyHER’ video series.
In this series, host Jojo Struys and SMCV consultants share their expertise and insights on women’s overall health and wellbeing, providing a platform for women to learn how to better care for their health and embrace self-love along the way.
With a focus on celebrating women’s strength and resilience, SMCV’s “The Glow Retreat: Unwind and Rejuvenate” provided a rejuvenating experience while paving the way for ongoing empowerment for women.
