I have a boisterous 7-year-old boy and he is absolutely a joy to be around with. He loves rough play and running, he tells the darndest jokes, enjoys eating with gusto (except for vegetables! Urgh!), drops nuggets of wisdom in our daily conversations, oh, and watching TV is what he lives for. The most normal, most perfect little boy for our family.
The only problem? He doesn’t care much about brushing his teeth and that truly irks me!
The Domino Effect
I’m sure there are many parents out there who are facing the same problem; we want so badly to train our children to be independent by getting themselves ready—brushing teeth, dressing up, showering, cleaning up after themselves. I mean, these are basic life skills, right?
But at the same time, we are also super concerned with how well our little ones clean themselves, especially knowing they do not enjoy these self-care routines and take them lightly! We’d end up taking over while they lay back or allowing them to do a less-than-satisfied job and risk damaging their health. It is a parental dilemma!
When we continuously indulge our children to avoid a tantrum when they do not want to brush their teeth, we will soon start noticing red flags like tooth decay, cavities, weak gums, and many other dental problems popping up. Over time, observant parents may even catch tell-tale signs of introversion, shyness, and lack of confidence in their children. That’s right, even young children get affected by their body image.
That is why it is important that we take all possible precautionary steps to prevent unhealthy cycles from happening and help our children build their self-esteem.
About Dental Hygiene and The Dreaded C Word
Truth be told, dental care is an easily overlooked aspect when our children are much younger. Surely a baby’s oral cavity is not that dirty, right? Well, far from it!
Tooth decay happens when germs in the mouth create plaque on the tooth surface. These germs feed on sugars that come with the food and drinks we eat and produce an acid that damages the tooth surface. The acid then eats away at the enamel, creating cavities, or “holes” that rob our kids’ beautiful smiles!
Tooth decay does not just cause pain and infections, it will also affect children’s growth, nutrition intake, speech, and jaw development in the long run.
Building Self-Confidence
Besides the physical aspects, dental problems in children can also bring a very significant effect on their quality of life and that of their families. The lack of self-confidence may not be apparent at the beginning, but it will slowly chip away at a child and put a dimmer on the child’s otherwise amazing personality. But this can be easily avoided with the help of the parents, who play a pivotal role in creating age-appropriate awareness in their children on the topic of dental health.
One of children’s most notable positive traits is that they are fast learners. They learn quickly when mundane chores are made fun with attractive yet practical tools and steps.
Step Up with Jordan
A leading expert in oral care, Jordan strongly believes that good oral care and hygiene from young builds confidence, and as such, gives children the firm foundation they so need to grow to be whoever and whatever they aspire to be in the future, effectively opening a world of possibilities for them.
Jordan’s dedication to developing the best oral care products for kids resulted in Jordan STEPS—a well-loved and trusted range all these years, specially designed to meet the needs of children at different ages.
That said, Jordan continues to find ways to better its formulation and designs. The result is the relaunch of the Jordan Kids STEPS range.
Introducing…
Jordan’s Kids STEPS toothbrushes are available in 3 different stages (ages 0-2, 3-5, and 6-9); its dedication is clearly seen in the details—ergonomic handles, short necks that prevent choking, toothpaste indicators, softer bristles, and lively new characters!
There is just something magical that captures a child’s heart in cartoon characters! Jordan is excited to introduce four whimsical characters, each with their own captivating personality and secret talents!
As for Jordan’s toothpaste, the new formulation is proved to be gentler and more effective for kids of all ages. It contains the recommended fluoride level and with a low dental relative dentine abrasive marker (RDA <70). 97% of its ingredients are natural and are vegan-sourced, promising 0% allergens, paraben, and sugar. With its signature mild strawberry taste, the popular Jordan toothpaste is sure to inspire the kids to brush up a storm!
To Tooth, With Love
Jordan’s wide range of oral care products is no doubt, little-users friendly. What you place in your little one’s hand is not just a toothbrush to clean her teeth, but a grip trainer that trains her fine motor skills and an awesome bonding tool that creates endless magical moments!
These bonding tools with attractive, brightly coloured cute characters and toy-like appearance will easily take children in, which turns the “chore” of brushing teeth into a fun game of cleaning with daddy and mummy!
Children learn quickly, but they also learn by example. When parents offer age-appropriate tools to their kids and setting a good role model, they will naturally learn to care for their own oral hygiene and bring that attitude well into their grown-up years.
