Let’s admit it, the final quarter is here and the year 2020 is definitely not going as to how most of us planned it to be.
With all the uncertainties happening around us, we certainly need something nice to keep us going. By now we may find ourselves out of routine with the occasional blues clouding us but let’s stay positive and chin up!
Have faith that better days are up ahead. Also, it is important not to stay idle. No matter how tough things can be, we should try to keep ourselves occupied by doing things that cheer us up, and for me, baking is my happy pill!
My Love for Chocolate
I have a lot of chocolate in my kitchen pantry – chocolate powder, chocolate chips, chocolate bars… you name it! I am sure I got it because my motto in life is, “For instant happiness, just add CHOCOLATE!”. Well, who doesn’t love chocolate?
So that’s exactly what I’m going to be doing today. Since I have a lot of chocolate in my kitchen, I am going to share this irresistibly moist chocolate chip buns recipe that will brighten the darkest of days and the gloomiest of mood.
Chocolate Chip Bun Recipe
Ingredients:
- 120ml milk
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 30g sugar
- 15g cocoa powder
- 35g chocolate chip
- 30g butter
- 240g bread flour
- 2 tablespoon milk powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
Method:
- Combine milk, sugar and yeast.
- Stir and let rest for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, add cocoa powder into bread flour and sieve.
- Add milk powder and salt. Mix.
- Pour yeast mixture into the flour mixture.
- Add egg.
- Towards the end of the kneading stage, add butter.
- The butter should be at room temperature.
- Remove dough from mixing bowl.
- Shape dough into a big ball. Place into a bowl, cover and proof for 60 minutes.
- After 60 minutes, remove dough from bowl and flatten the dough using a rolling pin.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips onto the dough.
- Roll the dough to cover the chocolate chips and flatten it again.
- Sprinkle more chocolate chips, roll to cover, flatten and repeat the process until all the chocolate chips are used up.
- Roll into a log and divide the dough into 12 equal portions.
- Roll into balls.
- Cover and let rest for 15 minutes.
- Flatten the dough and roll into balls again.
- Arrange the balls of dough onto a baking tray making sure to distance them to give ample space to allow them to rise.
- Cover and proof for 60 minutes.
- Brush the dough with fresh milk.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180C for 25 minutes.
These chocolate buns are soft, pillowy, and deliciously loaded with chocolate chips. I made these for my boys and the children in the neighbourhood and they were a HUGE SUCCESS!
