6 Egg-cellent Egg Hacks to Make Your Life Easier

egg-hacks

Cooking eggs may look easy on the surface. But it’s a fact that they continue to elude and frustrate many a home cook, both seasoned and new.

However, we’re not talking about fancy recipes or gourmet dishes here.

Enter: Egg hacks!

These hacks involve the most basic, but easily the most important, part of any cooking: the prep.

Dealing with eggs doesn’t have to be a kitchen disaster.

Not with these 6 hacks from TikTok.

6 Egg Hacks You Should Try

A Cracking Good Time

We know what you may be thinking, “Who doesn’t know how to crack open an egg?”

Well, you’d be surprised.

One might say any monkey can crack an egg. But can they do it well enough without getting eggshells into the bowl?

This is often the first mistake that people make. Using forks or knives, or even the edges of bowls, to break eggs.

Apparently, the only thing you need is your work surface or counter space.

The best technique to stop getting the shell into your eggs is to just crack the egg on a flat surface.

An A-peel-ing Idea

Peeling hard-boiled eggs can either be a breeze or a nightmare.

If you’re the latter, then this may be a hack you definitely need to try.

No one knows where this trick came from, but all you need is a spoon.

Simply tap the top side of an egg with the back of a metal spoon several times until you hear a snapping sound.

The theory behind this is that tapping releases the egg sack from the eggshell, allowing it to come off easier instead of sticking.

Taking The Hard Out of Hard-boiled

The simplest thing on the list: boiling eggs.

Which people have boasted to be able to do in their sleep. But still managed to mess up.

Of course, the first thing you should do is bring the water to the boil, not put the eggs in cold water before starting the fire.

But it goes further than that.

You can actually adjust the boiling time to the preferred yolk quality.

Want a hard-boiled egg with a runny yolk? Boil it no more than 6 to 7 minutes.

Peel Like It’s No Big Deal

To further make your egg peeling journey that much smoother, use the same spoon you used for the previous hack.

Simply crack the egg shell enough to make a small opening and then slide the spoon into it.

Then jiggle the rest of the shell free with the spoon until you have one smooth hard-boiled egg ready to be eaten.

Sometimes when you do it right, the whole shell comes out whole because it’s still connected via the membrane.

You Must be Yolk-ing

Don’t you hate it when you come across a recipe and it involves separating the yolks and whites?

If you’re trying your hand at some Western delicacies, such as meringues, macarons, or even the Japanese fluffy cheesecake, then here are a few tips you should follow to make your yolking experience a smooth one.

The two most popular method seems to just use your hands, or a plastic bottle.

Watch this video below to learn exactly how to do so.

No More Bad Eggs

Ever been in the mood for an omelette only to crack a few eggs open and find them rotten?

Well, if you have some old eggs, about a week or so, unrefrigerated especially, then chances are some of them would have gone bad by the time you decide to use them.

But one rotten egg does not spoil the rest of the carton.

A good hack to see if eggs are still good is to plop them in a glass of water.

If the egg floats, chuck them. If they sink to the bottom, they’re good to be eaten.

@cookistwow

How to tell if an egg is still fresh and safe to be eaten? With the egg test, naturally! How does it work? All you have to do is sinking an egg into a glass filled with water: if it floats, that means that it’s no more fresh and safe to eat; if it sinks to the bottom but stays upright, it’s still fresh but consume it as soon as possible; if it sinks, it’s fresh. From now on, if you want to check if your eggs are fresh, do the egg test Have you ever tried it? #cookistwow #eggtest #freshness #learnwithcookistwow
