Welcoming a new one to the world is one of the most exciting moments for every new parent. We just cannot wait to see their cute little fingers and feet, and to cuddle with them as much as we can. For parents on a budget, here are the top five items you should get before anything else.
+1 Stroller and/or car seat
A stroller is one of the good investment for every parent. Having a stroller (especially a compact one) offers hassle-free travel. You can take a walk and travel easily without having to hold your baby in arms all the time and it will keep your baby comfortable along the journey.
Meanwhile, some strollers come with the car seat as well. Back in October 2018, Transport Minister, Anthony Loke had announced that child car seat would be made mandatory for all private cars starting January 2020. This is understandably agreed as it could potentially reduce the risk of injury to our children. Our advice is, get one good quality car seat stroller combo to save more!
+2 Diapers
You definitely need diapers. Diapers are essential for our baby. It is crucial to make sure our little one’s bum stays clean and dry always to avoid diaper rash and other skin conditions. If you are in need to stock up on your baby’s diapers, try to get your hands on the diapers at any baby warehouse sales. The diapers are usually sold in bundles/cartons where the prices are cheaper than others.
+3 Baby Clothes
Despite the temptation to buy all the cute-coloured baby clothes, please remember that many babies outgrow quickly. When you are adding baby clothes to your checklist, pick a few newborn apparels, and then focus on 0-3 months sizes. Usually, this size option would fit baby weighs 5-6kg.
+4 Baby Bottles
While there is no doubt that breastmilk is the best for our baby, a baby bottle becomes necessary to long term breastfeeding success. Since there are a lot of baby bottles, start by buying a few different types of bottles and nipples. Let your baby try them out and see what works best for you and your baby. As for the features, buy one that minimises air bubbles, such as drop-in inserts, vents, or an angled top, in order to prevent your baby from ingesting gas-causing air bubbles.
+5 Baby Wipes
Disposable wipes are important as it comes in handy for diaper changes and for surprise messes from our little one. Keep a good-size pack near your baby’s changing area, inside the diaper bag, in your handbag, car and others. Try to avoid those with fragrances and choose the one that is made especially for babies. It’ll be a good use for both you and the baby.
