There’s a certain lyrical justice about Fazleena Hishamuddin winning ‘Best Song’ at the Anugerah Juara Lagu recently. This victory was awarded to her years after her breakthrough as an indie artist. She is also a wife, a mother to her beautiful daughter, Kesuma Hati, an influencer who has worked with Motherhood.com.my on various campaigns, a novelist and also a stage actress.
One of her most recognised novels, ‘Seksi Ovari‘, is a presentation and sensibility that reflects the broad spectrum of women in arts and culture. Her big win as a songwriter at the Anugerah Juara Lagu recently was not expected by many but it was recognised immediately as it embodies the quality of work from indie artists.
The award winning song ‘Pelukan Angkasa‘ is a collaboration between the band SOG (Sekumpulan Orang Gila) and popular singer Shila Amzah who is also a mum, with its lyrics and composition by Raja Nazrin Shah and Fazleena herself. The recognition for this multitalented influencer happened close to three months after she was awarded as one of the Top Performing Influencers at the Ibuencer Awards not too long ago. It makes perfect sense when Motherhood.com.my decided to honour her with a trophy at the Ibuencer Awards.
This influential forty-two year old and her husband Amar Amir welcomed their daughter Kesuma Hati on 29 July 2021 and she also devoted her time to collaborate with us as an influencer. When we contacted her to attend the Ibuencer Awards, we were greeted with one of the warmest responses from this friendly influencer, “Sure! I would love to be there! Count me in”.
Despite the strict COVID-19 protocols at that time, she gracefully attended the Ibuencer Awards ceremony to receive her honour for ‘Top Performing Influencers’. It was the beginning of her time to shine and a pivotal moment for her as she sweeps one award after another this year.
Fazleena’s big wins are a shift for all women because she is breaking boundaries for all the amazing women with unstoppable spirits and smashed through the biased perceptions against their gender. When ‘Pelukan Angkasa‘ won Best Song at Anugerah Juara Lagu, it recognises women’s excellence in the local music industry that remains reminiscent while also engaging all women to push boundaries. Women, just like men, are capable of setting an example and becoming successful in their own rights.
Now that women around the globe are celebrating International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month throughout the month, we asked Fazleena whether she has a message to convey to inspire women, especially mummies, exclusively on Motherhood.com.my. This is what she has to say for all mummies out there (translated from Bahasa Malaysia):
Being a woman is about learning to understand human rights that are often violated. Protect yourself from patriarchal threats and discrimination. Unearthing your potential day after day. Standing on your own two feet. Constantly building knowledge. Striving for ideals and love. Treating wounds and tears without regret. Don’t stop dreaming. Give and receive in moderation. And to love yourself with all your heart.
Fazleena is celebrating her life and showing what it feels like to be a woman being awarded for her work at prestigious ceremonies on her Instagram account. However, aligning and assembling women with inspirational messages are from over. We certainly hope her quote and recognitions can inspire mummies to further echo female empowerment throughout this month for International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month!
