The Parentcraft Class reached a new milestone on 7 September 2025, when it held its first-ever session in the Northern Region in collaboration with Gleneagles Hospital Penang.
The full-day programme brought together 35 couples eager to learn, connect, and prepare for the journey into parenthood.
The Parentcraft class drew a healthy turnout of expecting couples from Penang and beyond, reflecting the demand for accessible, expert-led guidance on pregnancy, delivery, and newborn care.
Many participants highlighted the event as an invaluable opportunity to gain confidence before welcoming their little ones.
Full-Day Programme with Expert Sessions
The day began with a warm welcome from Ms Hazel Tan of Gleneagles Penang, who introduced parents to the hospital’s maternity services, giving couples a first look at the facilities and support they could expect when the big day arrived.
From there, the energy picked up with gentle stretches led by coach Bryan Leow, showing mums-to-be simple movements that ease tension and build strength.
Next, Dr Somaskandar and Dr Lakshmi sat down for an open chat about the ups and downs of pregnancy.
Parents nodded, laughed, and even sighed with relief as their worries were turned into practical advice they could take home.
Later in the morning, Dr Nurhaya Yacob spoke warmly about breastfeeding.
She reminded everyone that it’s not just about feeding a baby but about love, patience, and finding the right support system.
Many first-time mums shared that her words made them feel less nervous about what’s to come.
Dr Ng Yun Yun then introduced parents to the basics of newborn care.
Couples practised holding, burping, and soothing.
What started off a little awkward quickly turned into a room full of confident, smiling parents-to-be.
After lunch, couples joined a hospital tour around Gleneagles Penang.
Walking through the maternity wards gave many soon-to-be parents a real sense of excitement; they could picture themselves returning here when their big day finally arrived.
The afternoon was packed with useful tips.
Dr Chin Jin Chew explained how epidurals work in simple terms, clearing up common fears.
Then, Pn Norliza from Joyful Confinement Centre showed parents how to swaddle, massage, and care for their newborns.
Couples tried it for themselves, laughing through their mistakes while learning skills they’ll soon put to good use.
One of the liveliest moments of the day was the Diaper Challenge.
Dads especially threw themselves into the competition, trying to change nappies in record time while mums cheered them on.
The laughter made it a moment to remember.
Before the day wrapped up, dietitian Maisarah Mohammad Fadzil gave simple, no-fuss tips on how mums can eat well during pregnancy without overcomplicating things.
Finally, Dr Sow Kai Fei talked about how to handle newborn emergencies.
His calm explanations helped parents feel reassured that, even in tough situations, they could keep their cool and act fast.
Wrapping Up with Joy
Parents had the chance to practise swaddling, baby massage, and diapering while also engaging directly with medical experts.
A guided tour of Gleneagles Penang’s facilities offered parents a first-hand look at maternity services.
The day concluded with a group photo, lucky draw, and goodie bag distribution, creating a memorable finale for all attendees.
Prizes included baby car seats, gift sets, and vouchers sponsored by SNSKIDZ, Lunavie, Babyshop, and others.
Parents Share Their Experience
