Raising The Roof On Raisins: How They Do Wonders For Kids During Ramadhan

I remember when I was a child, I would jump up and down with excitement every time Ramadhan was near.

It was a special time that I knew that I needed to buck up and amp up my fasting skills. Yes, I was a very determined child back then; an unstoppable little force and I had a good reason for it.

Imagine this: You fast all day long and at the end of it, you get to feast on your favourite meals air tangan mak-style as a reward if you follow through.

And I want my own kids to experience the same joy and sweetness of the holy of month, just as I did. So, when it comes to fasting, they would need a little encouragement and enough nutrients to help them get through the day.

And I’m very particular with what my little darlings eat – what mum doesn’t, right?

So dear mummies,

No doubt that dates are a must-eat during Ramadhan. But oh no, I’m not here talking about dates.

If your kids are like mine, you would know how hard it is trying to get them to eat one. Maybe for some of you, it’s like a walk in the park. For the rest of us, it literally feels like going into a battlefield.

From a mum who has won the war, I suggest you opt for a slightly smaller, yet tastier alternative: Raisin.

So, Why Raisins?

RAISIN – The most popular fruit in the Mediterranean diet, it contains more nutrients than its small size might indicate. This tiny gem is more than just a delicious fruit – it offers significant health benefits for the little kiddos as well.

They were, after all, a common snack during our childhood. Remember eating them religiously before sitting for SPM?

Similar to dates, raisins during Ramadhan make a great healthy snack to break a fast, munch tastily in between taraweeh prayers, and they’re easy to chew for when the kids get a little too sleepy to eat during sahur

More Benefits Of Raisins (Especially During Ramadhan)

1. Good Source Of Energy

Despite their small size, raisins are packed with energy and they’re the perfect balance of vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

A bonus to help my little ones stay energised (and not grumpy!) throughout the day, while fasting!

2. Brain Booster

Raisins are an excellent source of boron. Wait, what’s that? Well, boron is actually a brain booster element that improves hand-eye coordination, attention, and memory.

So, mummies, don’t promise that expensive toy for their birthday because they’re going to remember it for sure – even after Ramadhan ends!

 3. Great Source Of Fiber

So, if your kids do decide to fast, that means they’ll likely have less water in their bodies (read: they’ll feel thirstier). And this could also be a cause of constipation. Yikes! And if they’re constipated and have a low fiber intake, eating more of it could help.

So, it’s wise to add raisins into their diets as they’re pretty much rich in fiber.

4. Increase Body Immunity

Fun fact: Raisins make a great immunity booster for the kids.

Yes, darlings!

Rich in magnesium and potassium, raisins aid in neutralising the acids in our bodies. And there’s more: Raisins also contain vitamins B and C, which help strengthen kids’ immunity. Thus, their bodies become healthier and less susceptible to infections – and they need this to get through a whole day of fasting.

Ultimately, healthier kids equal happier mummies!

5. Grow Stronger & Healthier

Want stronger and healthier kids so that they can experience a smooth Ramadhan month? Raisin is the answer!

The minerals in raisins, such as potassium, phosphorus, iron, calcium, and magnesium help in the mental and physical growth and development of your little ones. Plus, calcium is also essential in growing healthier and stronger bones and teeth.

So, are you convinced yet?

No doubt as a mum, I find that raisin is probably the best alternative to my kids’ favourite snacks, especially during Ramadhan. When it’s healthy and there’s no crying involved, you know you need to add it in to your grocery list!

So, if you’re looking for the best raisins to stock up for Ramadhan, I strongly recommend getting the ones from Sun-Maid.
