Should You Send Your Kids To School (If You Have COVID-19 Symptoms)?

While we can’t ascertain the exact origin of this message, it has been making its rounds to parents and teachers everywhere, all weekend.

The WhatsApp message has been forwarded from parents to parents, and school heads to parents for primary and secondary schools a thousand times over.

Whether it is legit, or otherwise, we believe it is sound advice to all parents. It is believed to be passed down because there were parents showing COVID-19 symptoms, but we’re still sending their children to school.

The message reads:

Following are real life examples. Please read carefully and understand.

【Case 1】

Parents showing COVID-19 symptoms, yet still sending children to school.

【Case 2】

Parents were asked to go for test, but still sent children to school before test results confirming negative.

【Case 3】

Parents are on sick leave because of flu, while their workplace have tested positive cases, yet they are still sending children to school.

= Results =

All the parents in these three cases were eventually tested positive for COVID-19.

Such ignorance has seriously affected the school’s operation. It’s not only other parents who are worried about their children, but teachers too, have family and people whom they care about.

Dear parents, please be more vigilant and take proper precautions if:

Any of the family members:

– have positive cases at their workplace

– have symptoms (especially flu-like symptoms or loss of smell and taste)

– on sick leave (especially flu)

– going through COVID-19 test but yet to receive confirmation

– PUI (Person Under Investigation)

– PUS (Person Under Surveillance)

*PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL*

Highlighted

Stay home if you have symptoms
Stay home if you show symptoms (your kids too).

Please be a responsible parent, so that you will not cause inconvenience to others just because you assume “it is safe”.

The virus does not discriminate, hence we need to look out for each other, to protect ourselves while protecting others (especially our loved ones).

Should you experience any symptoms or have contracted the virus, there should be no second thoughts to self-quarantine and break the chain of transmission.

Remember, we are all forced to live with the virus until the pandemic is resolved. A selfish act might only be convenient to one, but ultimately ruin everyone’s efforts (and even livelihood).

From Motherhood to all parents and caregivers out there, stay vigilant and stay safe!
