Why You Should Buy a Smartwatch for Your Kid

Gen Z influencers are making digital accessories a must-have, and smartwatches are all the rage these days.

Adults aren’t the only ones hopping on the trend, though. Even kids are now sporting smartwatches on their wrists, just like their parents.

If you’re a parent yourself, you must be wondering: ‘What on earth would my child need a smartwatch for?’

Well, read on to find out, because the reasons are much more reasonable than you think.

You Can Track Their Location

Smartwatches can be a great tool for keeping your child safe.

Some brands allow parents to sync their smartphones with their child’s smartwatch in order to track their whereabouts remotely.

This may seem like an invasion of privacy, but if your child is supposed to be at school, that is where they should be. And of course this feature is useful too if your child is the kind who likes to play truant.

But if they’re smart enough to bypass their tracker, you probably won’t know if they’ve left the school to go to the mall. However, if they’re old enough to do that, they’re probably old enough to take care of themselves.

For younger kids, its probably best to keep a weather eye on them. You never know what kind of perverts and predators are out there preying on kids.

They Can Easily Contact You in Case of Emergencies

Some smartphones have built-in calling capabilities. You just need to insert a SIM card, and it’s all good to go.

This is great if your child’s school prohibits phones, and they need to make emergency phone calls. While schools do have phones that your child can use, your child may not always have access to them when the need arises.

Conversely, if you as a parent need to contact them, calling them straight from their smartwatches saves a lot of time.

Moreover, if a smartwatch has calling capabilities, they may also be able to let the user send text messages.

This can be equally useful if your child needs to ask you something quickly without jumping through hoops just to access the school phone.

They Are Covert

Smartphones are great. They have hundreds of features, have a large screen and are portable.

But where they fall short is that they are incredibly obvious. Also, despite their size, they can easily be misplaced or lost. Either by human shortcoming or theft.

Smartwatches are reminiscent of espionage movies, and that’s for a good reason, they’re inconspicuous. Your child will definitely have fun pretending they’re one of the SpyKids wearing them.

Aside from the aesthetic appeal, smartwatches are also small and are less likely to be left behind or stolen because they’re attached to your wrist wherever you go. This makes it easy for your child to make emergency calls if they’re in trouble.

The first thing that kidnappers confiscate when they take a child is their phone.

Because smartwatches are easily overlooked, your child has a second lifeline if they were to find themselves in these kinds of situations.

They Are Like a Swiss Army Knife

Smartwatches don’t just look cool, they come with a variety of features.

While not nearly as comprehensive as a smartphone, smartwatches may be equipped with a calculator, notepad, calendar, email, timer, alarm clock, stopwatch, weather app, a compass, GPS,  and so much more. These can be useful for a kid navigating the highs and lows of school.

Whether that’s catching up on homework, being on time for classes, finding classes, and checking their timetable. Smartphones are so versatile and may give your child an edge as a student. So long as they’re not being used to cheat on exams.

They Have Other Important Life-Saving Features

If your child is diabetic or has other serious medical condition, a smartwatch may just save their lives.

Depending on the brand and model, some smartwatches are equipped with a heart monitor, glucose sensor thermometer.

Moreover, if your child needs to take their medication, you can program an alarm or reminder to remind them when to take their meds.

This can be a good tool for kids who really need some help taking care of their health when adults aren’t around to help them out.

Final Words

These are just some reasons why parents let their kids have smartwatches. There are probably many others that I haven’t covered, but you get the gist.

At the end of the day, you know what’s best for your child.

If you’re keen on getting one for your kid, here are a few options you can choose from. They’re not exactly cheap, but there’s a suitable price point for families of all incomes.

So, do some window shopping and you may just find the right fit. Good luck, parents!
