Our kids are not immune to COVID-19 even though the risk of them getting infected is lower. Masks for kids are important in order to lessen the transmission of viruses. Kids need suitable and safe face masks to encourage preventive measures.

Schools have already reopened for a few months. Although the minister said that it is not compulsory for students to wear masks at school, it is advisable for your kids to wear mask once they are outside.

I’ve seen some kids wearing masks that are made for adults. They seem uncomfortable and constantly adjusting their masks!

Mom and Dad, you should be a role model for your kids! If you teach your kids to wear masks properly, it will help them understand better about the new norm.

Are Face Masks Safe For Kids To Wear?

  • Well, face masks do help to minimise the infection of viruses. However, you should take note that kids below 2 years old should NOT wear a mask! This is to avoid the risks of suffocating and strangling.
  • Also, if you have children that have health issues that involve breathing, it is not recommended to wear face masks.
  • Kids aged 12 years and above MUST wear masks too!

Many parents wonder what are the criteria for a safe and suitable face mask for their children, and I am here to help you!

The Criteria of a Safe & Suitable Kids’ Face Mask

  • Multiple fabric layers – 3 layers
  • Fit and comfortable (make sure it’s not loose!)
  • Breathable
  • Secured with ear loops or strings

Remember to wear a face mask when you are out and about. It helps to protect yourself from the infection (and the RM1,000 fine!).
