Try These 6 Tasty ‘Buka Puasa’ Meals & Watch Your Kids Love Ramadan Even More

Kids are completely unpredictable when it comes to eating. It gets more difficult if the kid is a picky eater. It is totally a struggle to provide him with any kind of food, other than the blandest and most repetitive meals; just to get him to eat something. Especially during this holy month, mommies tend to think about what is the best meal that is delicious and nutritious to feed our children.

Our children need to get enough nutrients from the meal during iftar and sahur so they can have enough energy to fast throughout the day. Try out these quick and easy ‘buka puasa’ meals that will make your children (and the entire family) love it even more. Even your picky eaters won’t say NO anymore!

1. Tom Yum

Tom Yum is no doubt one of the most famous Thai dishes and one of the best soups in the world. The flavours of lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves, fresh Thai chilies, and fresh lime juice combined to create a healthy and soothing broth on our taste buds.

(If you never cook this before) believe it or not, it took less than 20 minutes to prepare this dish. You just have to make sure you have all the ingredients at home, spend some time to chop all the ingredients, and let it boil to cook! Easy peasy.

2. Nasi Lemak

It is the most popular dish among Malaysian and everyone’s favourite food. The delicious ‘nasi lemak’ is served with side dishes like fried peanuts, a slice of cucumbers, and spicy sambal.

Usually, ‘nasi lemak’ is best to eat with fried chicken. Instead, you can change to a healthier option for your family, which is grill chicken.

3. Nasi Kerabu

When thinking of the meal to prepare for ‘buka puasa’, we immediately think of a variety of food that we have in Malaysia. One of the most popular choice is no doubt, ‘Nasi Kerabu’.

This extraordinary-looking dishes comes in blue colour rice because people often use the butterfly-pea flower petals to cook it. The rice is eaten with several side dishes including salted eggs, ayam percik, some vegetables or known as ‘ulam’ and some crackers.

4. Bubur Lambuk

One of THE most awaited dishes during Ramadan! Usually, ‘bubur lambuk’ is made by a group of people from the mosque. It is a combination of rice, spices, some local herb, and some meat. This bubur lambuk can be eaten as the appetizer right after ‘berbuka’ or after Tarawih or also known as ‘moreh’.

5. Ayam Masak Kicap

This is a MUST try the recipe for mommies to cook as a meal during ‘buka puasa’.  It is easy to make and super-delicious. Your kids surely will love it!

‘Ayam Masak Kicap’ is best serve with a bowl of hot steamed rice and some ‘sambal’ (for the parents) to add in some kick!

6. Steamed Fish

Last but not least, steam fish is a fast and super easy meal! It is suitable for working moms (who still have to work during CMCO). You just need to make sure you’ve took out the fish from the freezer earlier.

Once you arrived home, you can simply chop in a few ingredients such as lemongrass, ginger, garlic, chilies, some squeeze of lime, coriander leaves. Put everything including the fish, in a plate and let it steam for about 15-20minutes. It is then ready to be served!

Even though there are only a few days left until Ramadan, cherish this moment and opportunity to have a better Ramadan.
