We don’t see many men embracing the plant-based lifestyle these days; it was largely been seen as a predominantly female-led movement. But in recent years and in our very own shores, Malaysian men are fully embracing the vegan diet and advocating it to the masses.
For all the plant-based mums out there who want to show their man that being vegan can be just as sexy and masculine, here are some top male influencers who are totally rocking the vegan lifestyle.
Akmal Ali
This bodybuilder cum entrepreneur is not just a pretty face. He also co-owns a successful vegan brand, Mushroom Lah, which sells vegan rendang for followers of the plant-based diet.
Aside from his personal coaching business, Akmal is a firm believer in vegan bodybuilding. He regularly posts fitness related content and diet tips for those who want to reach their fitness goals without sacrificing the plant-based lifestyle.
Akmal has only been a vegan since 2016 and adopted the lifestyle due to sustainability and environmental reasons; doing his part to reduce his carbon footprint and end food wastage.
Chef Dave
When it comes to making plant-based dishes look delectable, Chef Dave definitely knows how it’s done. A professional vegan chef, restaurant owner and plant-based activist, Chef Dave enjoys sharing mouth-watering vegan tutorials just as much as he loves advocating for animal rights and cruelty-free food.
He also organises cooking classes for newbies in the vegan world. You can also find hundreds of veganised Indian recipes on his Instagram and YouTube pages. But if you want to taste Chef Dave’s legendary vegan cooking you can visit his restaurant, Chef Dave’s PB Kitchen!
Chef Dave’s ultimate goal is to veganise traditional Malaysian food to show just how easy it is adopting a plant-based diet. He does so in the hopes of ending animal cruelty in the country.
Fauzi Hussein
Long-time veteran in the restaurant business, Fauzi Hussein did not originally intend to go vegan, or even start his own vegan eatery. That is not until some alarming medical news gave him the wake-up call he needed to change his entire lifestyle.
After realising just how much the vegan lifestyle improved his health, Fauzi decided to go 100% plant-based, much to the chagrin of his family who thought he had switched faiths.
Seeking to destigmatise the connection between veganism and religion (as well as encourage healthier eating), Fauzi founded his own vegan restaurant in 2017 called Sala, meaning living-room in Spanish primarily specialising in Tex-Mex cuisine. It is now one of the most successful plant-based restaurants in the country.
