Well, what is a baby shower?
Baby showers are gift-giving parties or ceremonies to celebrate the birth of a baby! Fun fact: baby showers are common for Westerners but it’s not as common in Malaysia. (Psst, it doesn’t matter!)
Who should plan this event?
Most of the time, baby showers are arranged and planned by family, best friends or it could be just about anyone! As long as they are a good sport, you and your guests are assured a good time. However, some moms do host and plan their own baby showers and that’s fine too!
When and where should it be done?
- It’s all up to the host! Baby showers can be done at your own home, restaurant, park and anywhere that is suitable.
- Baby showers can be done at any time during your pregnancy, as long as it’s convenient.
So, one of the first things that should be decided is… the THEME! Don’t we all love a themed baby shower? We all do!
First, you must brain-storm a few ideas of the themes that you like. Don’t be afraid to get creative and do things out of your comfort zone. Worry not, there are no set rules. You can make it as simple or as elaborate as you wish!
Five Unique Ideas for Baby Shower Themes
Colour-Coded
- Are you having a baby girl or baby boy? Well, if you want to follow the “traditional” way of pink and blue theme, go ahead. But, it’s better to step up the game. It’s 2021, after all!
- You should explore various colours, think outside the rainbow. You can play with green, gold, white and many more. You can also ask your guests to dress up according to the theme’s colour and it would look amazing in photos!
Movie or TV Series Inspired
- Who says that movie and television series themes are only for birthday parties? Baby showers can be transformed into anything you want! This is the time to bring your favourite movie and television series to life, by requesting a cake inspired by it. Get geared up in costumes and use decorations according to the theme.
- Examples of famous movie inspired themes would be Harry Potter, The Great Gatsby and Game of Thrones!
Minimalist
- Sometimes it gets overwhelming and you don’t know what to decide, so why not go for a minimalist theme. You can use basic decorations, and stick to neutral or earthy colours that can match anything.
- The key element for a minimalist baby shower is to hold on to the idea of “less is more!” So, don’t go crazy with it! And don’t stress too much about it.
Disney-Inspired
- Everyone loves Disney? Okay, even if you don’t, you can never resist a prince or princess inspired theme!
- Just imagine your guests dressing up as a Disney character or cartoon! Wouldn’t that be a blast? We’re never too old for Disney, Moms!
Flower Power!
- Imagine the sweet scent of fresh flowers at your baby shower? Amazing! The venue should be decorated with flowers and aesthetic plants that fit the theme.
- I would recommend using flowers that are pastels in colour and medium sized. To sweeten it more, Moms should also wear a flower crown because a queen deserves it!
At the end of the day, baby showers are meant to celebrate mothers and the little one, who is waiting to make a grand entrance.
