Do you ever find yourself in this very situation? I’m sure many are in the same boat, by choice or otherwise.
The Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) has changed the way we function in some areas. While I must continue to work in my office every day, my husband must continue to work from home.
Since I spend the majority of my time in the office, my husband looks after my son and does almost all of the housework throughout the day.
He is the one who cooks, cleans, does the laundry, and looks after our child while still being on call for work. I could not ask anything more!
But, after all, marriage is about teamwork, right? We should do chores together and share our duties. However, when one of us is preoccupied, tolerance and understanding should enter the picture.
Why Is It Important To Strike A Balance Between Work And Family Life?
Even if we are absorbed in our jobs, we must not lose sight of our duties as mothers.
In this situation, the husband might be the one who remains at home, but your children and family would appreciate a mother’s presence.
You do not want your loved ones to feel neglected. Imagine if only one spouse contributes while the other is focused on her career.
Think about how your child will view her mother. And think about the lack of love that your child might feel.
If you are unaware, the majority of broken family cases are triggered by a lack of attention provided by both parents, a lack of love for each other, and an inability to act as a family.
I believe there is space for improvement. Taking care of a family is a team effort. It should be handled collaboratively.

Take Shifts In Taking Care Of Your Child
My husband looks after our son throughout the day while I go to work. So, when I got home, I did my part.
I will bathe my son, play with him or simply, attend to his needs. When the clock strikes 9 pm, I will ask him to go to bed.
You should do the same. Take your shift if you have a day off or when you have some spare time.
Put on your “mummy cap” and play your part. After a long day at work, at least you get to spend time with your son.
Make Time For Your Partner
Similar to our children, our husband needs our attention as well.
So what you can do is to offer him some of your time. For parents with small kids, you can get your child to bed by 9pm, just so you can have some time with your partner.
Spend some quiet time together. Perhaps just chilling with a cup of coffee or watching movies on Netflix.
By doing this daily or weekly, you get to deepen your relationship and develop more love and affection for each other.
Spend The Weekend Doing Chores Together
You may feel inadequate as a mother because you did not spend enough time with your kids.
However, you should compensate by making the most of your weekend.
Why don’t you get your child (or the entire family!) to assist with the household chores?
There are also cooking and baking activities that you can do with them.
This way, no one will feel left out, and you will have the opportunity to bond with both your child and your partner.
Doing Fun Activities As A Family
Doing activities with one another can be a lot of fun!
You can try scrabble, puzzles, hide and seek, gardening, and so much more to spend quality time together.
I would suggest for you to do some indoor gardening which can be a fun family activity, as well as giving a whole new look to your interior (and more oxygen as well!)
It may be tough, but you can do it!
Mummies, if you have to go to work, do not feel bad about it.
After all, money can be scarce, especially during this pandemic season. You have no choice but to work to support your family’s finances.
However, this should not be used as an excuse to neglect your family.
Do know that you are always strong and smart. You will be fine as long as you can reassure your partner, but do not worry even if they are not.
Juggling work and life can be complicated, but you will be fine.
