A crib hack has gone viral on TikTok recently, showing a mum putting a tent over her son’s crib.

As parents, we know that toddlers can sometimes be a handful.

They might even get out of our control sometimes.

As a result, we may get a load of stress and thus, want to find a solution.

But this isn’t the way.

In fact, it can be dangerous.

TikTok user Lauren the Mortician debunks this hack with a Stitch, saying that it can be deadly.

She implores parents to do their research first.

Lauren says a lot of these products are not regulated.

One of which is the crib nest that can be seen in the dangerous viral clip.

Toddlers can easily get their stuck head in-between the net and crib.

This could then cause choking.

Another danger is as once the top part of the tent starts to fall; it’ll cover your toddler in the crib.

Ending with them ‘getting wrapped up in it’ and suffocating them.

The poles in the tent can get ripped, too.

She cited an example from another case whereby a child got hurt.

They accidently punctured themselves with the poles and it caused ‘lasting lifelong damage’.

Alternatives

Parents need not take any needless risks in keeping toddlers safe.

Lauren has given some solutions in her post.

One of which is to simply put your child in a toddler bed instead of a crib.

When your toddler is around eighteen months and aren’t rowdy enough, you can then consider other options.

Another method is to have your toddler wear a sleep sack.

A sleep sack is a type of pyjamas with a rounded footless bottom.

However, she did note that not all toddlers are tame enough with this method.

This is as they may easily unzip or unbutton themselves out of it.

But Lauren said, ‘they’re not able to raise their legs up and get up on top of the crib either’.

So, consider it as the safer option for now.

And it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Play Safe with Your Toddlers

Toddlers are at a big milestone, and the word ‘unstoppable’ is often their middle name.

With great amount of care and caution, you’ll be able to mix fun and safe with your toddler in no time.

Keep it up, parents!
