Mummies, Don’t Feel Guilty If You Need More Time For Yourself

As a responsible mother, wife and an employee, you need to be a superwoman to juggle all tasks at hand.

We all understand the feeling, especially how we had to work from home when MCO was implemented.

You went through the stress, anger, and fatigue. But you’re not sure why. Hey, maybe what you need is some ‘me-time!

I know you may feel guilty for this and it seems impossible. But you have to understand that taking care of yourself is as essential as taking care of the family and completing your job.

Remember, a happy mum will colour the joy to the rest of the household.

I mean, your family would rather have a cheerful and all-rounded mum than a grumpy one. Don’t you agree?

Is this really necessary? Yes!

If you need any reasons why you should not feel guilty to have more time for yourself, let me share a few reasons why.

  • You will be able to channel the negative energy away through other things

Imagine, when exhausted, you had to entertain your children’s request for attention, or when they accidentally spilt a glass of milk on the floor.

We all can tell that, under these circumstances, our fatigue would take over our body and unleash our fury on our children, and we all do not wish for that.

This is why you need to channel this negativity to somewhere else, which you can get by spending a little time for yourself.

  • You do not only want to be healthy physically but mentally

A healthy mind makes a healthy body and vice versa. The prevalence of mental illness in Malaysia has risen dramatically since the pandemic Covid-19 hit.

You surely do not want to make it to the list. So, be a responsible mother. Take care of yourself so you can take care of others.

  • So that you can give your all to your loved ones

Don’t you wish to be able to give your best to your family, to cook, to care and to give your all to your loved ones?

But to do that, you need to love yourself first.

A mother is the heart of a home, and hence, a mother must always make sure their body is in tip-top condition in order to be able to function well, just like our hearts in our body.

Now that you get the point, how are you able to do this?

I know we all get stuck with workloads and chores sometimes. But please, make an effort to find a good time for yourself.

A good short time will do. But how?

  • Ask someone to take care of your children for awhile

Because most of the time you cannot avoid your children, what you can do is to pay for a one-day daycare centre to take care of them while you can go out for a little treat alone.

Nowadays, daycare centres have provided this kind of service that you may want to take advantage of.

But if your financial situation is tight, why not ask your partner for help?

After all, a good partner can always understand and cater to your needs when you ask for one.

  • Get a good nap

A simple treat for yourself, but totally worth it. Yes, nap!

We all know that since we hold the title “mother”, we can never get enough sleep.

Believe it or not, taking time for a nap would do an incredible job for your well-being.

Once you have managed to sneak away from your children, forget works and chores, forget everything.

Clear your mind, and take a deep dive into dreamland!

Another way to spend time with yourself is by doing things that you couldn’t do when your children are around.

Self-reward does not have to be expensive. Maybe having a quiet coffee-date alone with yourself, reading a book, or just being lazy while binge-watching on Netflix.

Why not, right?

Critically, why you should not feel guilty for craving more time for yourself are because this could help in elevating your mood, find your inner peace, and will guide you to have a healthy mind.

What you need is to appreciate each alone moment. This may sound simple but it is fundamental.

Mummies, never ever feel guilty anymore. Believe me, you deserve it!
