Abalone Secrets
Did you know that abalone is a Chinese favourite ocean treasure? Abalone or as it is called in Chinese, 鲍鱼 (bao yu), means abundance.
It is also regarded as an expensive delicacy in traditional Chinese cuisine. They often eat this precious seafood in the hopes of attaining good wealth.
And it is also really common for Chinese people to use abalone as food offerings during the festive season to wish each other an abundance of fortune in the upcoming year.
Preparation
It is common to use canned abalone because it is easily accessible at your nearest store and convenient to cook with. Plus, you only need a couple minutes to cook them as most of their sizes are two inches in length.
Do not overcook it! It can be too rubbery and tough to eat. If you cook it right, you may indulge yourself with the abalone’s rich texture and taste.
