Here’s Why Mums and Dads Loved Our Special Mother’s Day Parentcraft Class

To celebrate Mother’s Day month, Motherhood.com.my and Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara hosted a special edition of the Parentcraft Class.

With 63 couples in attendance, the day delivered a perfect mix of expert guidance, hands-on discovery, and real talk about what it truly takes to welcome a newborn.

From swaddling sessions to surprise giveaways (and yes, a flower for every mum!), this was far more than a class – it was a full-on parenting prep experience!

Breastfeeding: Learning by Doing

The workshop kicked off with a strong start with a theory-meets-practice breastfeeding session led by Sr Shantini Verasamy, Nurse Educator and Lactation Consultant.

Parents didn’t just sit and listen, they got involved, asking questions, adjusting positions, and leaving with far more clarity (and confidence) than they came in with.

Then came the crowd favourite: hands-on baby care.

Ms Hoi, Lactation Consultant and Manager from Cozzi Confinement Centre, walked couples through the basics of newborn hygiene, swaddling techniques, and baby massage.

With dolls in hand and laughter in the air, it was a session no one wanted to end.

Real Talk from Real Experts

Later in the day, Dr Lim Ai Wei, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, delivered a talk that struck a chord with many parents.

She shared honest insights into the maternal journey especially the emotional and physical changes that often follow childbirth.

For many, it was the first time these topics had been discussed so openly.

Next, Dr Ling Shih Gang, Consultant Paediatrician, led a session titled ‘Newborn: The First Three Months – Haven or Hell?’

His straightforward approach to newborn care covered feeding, sleep struggles, and early health signs to watch for. By breaking things down clearly, he helped turn worry into preparation.

To round off, Nur Alya Syafiqa, a dietitian from KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital, spoke about pregnancy nutrition.

Her talk was short but packed with practical advice, helping parents focus on what really matters when it comes to healthy eating during pregnancy.

Safety, Subscriptions and Speedy Diaper Showdown

The energy shifted as Ms Sarah Ng, a certified Child Occupant Safety Instructor, took the stage for a car seat safety demo.

Her session was an eye-opener, revealing how easily car seats are installed incorrectly and more importantly, how to fix those mistakes.

Between the expert talks, CryoCord introduced parents to the long-term benefits of umbilical cord preservation.

Their explanation struck the perfect balance of science and simplicity, making the topic approachable for first-time mums and dads.

At the same time, LG Subscribe, presented by Hunny Madu, offered a modern take on parenting.

With smart appliances and thoughtful tech, they showed how everyday tasks can become a little easier and a lot less stressful.

And of course, no Parentcraft Workshop is complete without a dose of fun!

The Diaper Challenge had parents laughing, cheering, and marvelling at some unexpectedly competitive dads.

A Mother’s Day Touch

During lunch, the team handed each mum a rose, a small but meaningful gesture.

By the time the lucky draw began, excitement filled the room!

Parents clapped, smiled, and carried their prizes with pride, their arms full and their spirits even fuller.

Prizes included a baby car seat from SNSKIDZ, a Lunavie gift set, and vouchers and gifts from Motherhood.com.my, Mama Siti, Senss, and Babyshop.

It was the perfect way to wrap up a day full of learning, connection, and celebration!

What Parents Had to Say

The impact of the workshop was best summed up by the parents themselves.

One participant shared how meaningful the entire experience had been:

“The Parentcraft class provides invaluable support and guidance for expectant and new parents through practical demonstrations and group activities, the class fosters a strong sense of community.”

From hands-on sessions to expert talks, the workshop offered more than just information.

It gave parents the chance to build confidence and connect with others on the same journey.

Another mum, attending for the first time, appreciated both the content and the care behind the event:

“Great for first-time mums! Variety of topics, great presenters and getting flowers for Mother’s Day was such a lovely touch.”

This workshop offered more than just useful information.

It combined practical preparation with personal touches that made parents feel truly supported.

Mums, in particular, walked away not only with new knowledge, but with wide smiles and a real sense of appreciation.
