If you’re an expecting parent and ever felt like you don’t even know what you don’t know – you’re not alone.
That feeling is exactly what brought 51 couples to Prince Court Medical Centre on 26 July 2025 for a full-day inaugural Parentcraft Class.
From early morning, couples arrived.
Some in their third trimester, others just beginning to show – but all searching for the same clarity and confidence.
A Full-Day Experience of Learning, Bonding and Support
The day began with welcome refreshments as couples settled in for what would be a full-day immersion into parenthood prep.
The programme, which stretched from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., was thoughtfully curated to cover the essentials.
From nutrition, labour, baby care, and emotional readiness, the sessions created space for hands-on practice and professional guidance.
One of the first sessions tackled the all-important topic of eating right during pregnancy, led by senior dietitian Ms Kong Pun Pun.
She guided the audience through simple dietary tips, meal adjustments, and smart habits that go beyond food fads.
Following that, Dr Wan Aizat Wan Zakaria, a consultant anaesthesiologist, addressed one of the most talked-about topics among new parents: Pain Management During Labour.
From epidurals to breathing techniques, her insights helped clarify what labour might actually feel like and how to manage it with confidence.
The workshop then moved into an eye-opening talk on umbilical cord banking, delivered by Ms Pei from CryoCord.
Her session offered clarity around a topic many had heard of but never truly understood: how cord blood can be stored and why it might matter for your baby’s future.
The energy in the room shifted again during the session: The Power of Breastfeeding.
ANC (Antenatal Care) Ms Sujatha Rajalingam reminded everyone that while breastfeeding is natural, it also comes with its fair share of challenges.
What makes all the difference in a journey? The support a mother gets.
Safety and Physical Preparation
Safety was another major focus of the day.
Sarah Ng, a certified Child Occupant Safety Instructor, walked couples through the correct use of car seats.
Car seat safety is a detail many may overlook until the moment they’re discharged from the hospital.
Representing Joie, she showed how proper installation and positioning can be life-saving.
Physical preparation was addressed in a session by physiotherapist Ms Syafiqah Subahir.
Ms Syafiqah shared labour-friendly exercises that couples can start practising together at home.
Dr Paul Tay then took the stage to demystify the labour and delivery process.
He offered reassuring guidance on everything from recognising contractions to knowing when to head to the hospital.
To close the theory sessions, paediatrician and neonatologist Dr Anna Padmavathy Soosai explained neonatal jaundice in newborns.
Neonatal jaundice is a concern that triggered one very relatable audience question – on ayam goreng kunyit.
Dr Anna reassured the room that jaundice is largely caused by immature livers in newborns, not maternal diet.
This condition is usually manageable with close monitoring.
After lunch, couples moved into an open space for the hands-on session led by SN (Senior Nurse) Nur Nabihah Ma’amor, assisted by experienced PCMC nurses.
This practical module was one of the highlights of the day, as couples got to practise real-life baby bathing and swaddling techniques on lifelike dolls.
What Parents Said About Parentcraft
As the afternoon gave way to evening, the mood turned celebratory with a round of lucky draws worth a total of RM2,716.
One lucky winner took home the Joie Signature i-Jemini™ Baby Car Seat, while others received Joielle Baby essential boxes, Lunavie gift sets, Babyshop gift cards, and curated gift bundles from Motherhood.com.my, Senss, and Mama Siti.
One couple in their third trimester shared how much it meant to them as first-time parents:
“Stepping into this new chapter feels a little less overwhelming and a lot more meaningful.
We’ve learned so much from the insightful sharing by the specialists and doctors. Where else can you get such a complete and supportive session all in one place?
We’re definitely going home with more knowledge, more confidence, and full hearts.”
Another participant highlighted the thoughtful balance of content and delivery:
“The topics were well thought out, with a good mix of theory and hands-on guidance. As a first-time parent, I found the sessions incredibly helpful and reassuring.
The instructors were knowledgeable and approachable, making it easy to ask questions and truly learn.”
Together, these reflections capture the heart of what the Parentcraft is all about.
