Quick & Easy Healthy Fruit Smoothies Recipes for Children

I usually start my day with a walk with my boys in the park opposite our house for some sunshine. Morning sunlight is rich in vitamin D and getting ourselves exposed daily to it is perhaps the easiest way for our body to absorb Vitamin D which is essential for our bone health.

One of the functions of vitamin D is to help absorb calcium and phosphorus from our diet. These minerals help to build and maintain stronger bones.

Upon returning home from our morning walk with the weather warming up, we look forward to a cool and refreshing treat. The boys and I will whip up a quick smoothie for breakfast.

Smoothies are a great source of nutrition with loads of health benefits to get us through the day before lunch. With only 3 basic ingredients to make a smoothie, there is literally no way to say it is too difficult to make.

The 3 basic ingredients I used for smoothies are milk, fruit and ice cubes but feel free to customise it with whatever ingredients you may have in your kitchen.

Ingredients for blueberry smoothie: Blueberries, milk and ice cubes.
Ingredients for banana smoothie: Banana, milk and ice cubes.
Ingredients for papaya smoothie: Papaya, milk and ice cubes.

For milk, you can choose to use either plant-based or animal-based milk; it is really up to your preference. Ice cubes are optional though. I will omit ice cubes if I am using frozen fruits but if I am using freshly cut fruits, then I’ll add ice cubes.

You may notice that there is no sugar nor honey in my ingredients list because my family doesn’t really take sweet stuffs but if you like your smoothies to be a little sweeter, then you may add honey or sweetener.

Ingredients

Blueberry Smoothie

  • 20 pcs blueberry
  • 1/2 glass fresh milk
  • 1/2 glass ice cubes

Banana Smoothie

  • 1/2 slice banana
  • 1/2 glass fresh milk
  • 1/2 glass ice cubes

Papaya Smoothie

  • 1/2 glass freshly cut papayas
  • 1/2 glass fresh milk
  • 1/2 glass ice cubes

Instructions

  • Clean and cut fruits. You may use any fruits to your preference.
  • Add fruits, milk and ice cubes into a blender.
  • Blend until smooth.
  • You may add honey if you prefer a sweeter smoothie.
  • Serve and enjoy this refreshing treat.

There are two things to take note when making a smoothie:
1) If the smoothie is too thick, you’ve added too much fruits. Add more liquid (milk/juice) and reblend.
2) If the smoothie is too runny, you’ve added too much liquid. Add more fruits and reblend.

There is no wrong way to make a smoothie. All you need is to adjust the consistency of the smoothie to your liking. Oh, if you are planning to make smoothies regularly, it is advisable to invest in a good and powerful blender.

If you find that you’ve made smoothies in excess, you can freeze them into ice cubes to be used for your next smoothie session or even make popsicles for a cool treat on a later day.
