During different phase, she recommends using the ROYGBIV to plan your vegetables and fruit to prioritise in each phase.
ROYGBIV is an acronym that refers to the colour of the rainbow, which are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
1. Menstrual Phase
It’s the phase we all know and it typically occurs on days one to five of your cycle.
During your menstrual phase, it’s recommended that you eat red and orange produce as it’s great to replenish the micronutrient levels.
During this phase it’s important to have enough intake of iron as it’s lost along with the blood, according to Forbes Health.
2. Follicular and Ovulatory Phase
The follicular phase actually happens all throughout your period and a few days after it as it happens through days one to 14 of the cycle.
While the ovulatory phase happens in the middle of the cycle.
During these phases, it’s important for you to get as much of green and yellow produce in your system.
This would help your liver in the process of detoxification and to support your gut.
Forbes Health also mentioned that during the follicular phase, you might want more to eat more carbs.
You might also get dehydrated easier during the follicular phase as elevated hormones can influence the body’s hydration levels.
However, during the ovulatory phase, it’s important for you to eat foods containing folic acid and vitamin D.
3. Luteal Phase
This phase usually occurs in the last two weeks of your cycle and it’s preparing for menstruation.
Your body would be working hard to prepare for potential pregnancy and might use more fat for energy and protein.
It’s recommended to eat produce that are blue, indigo and violet coloured.
You should eat consistently during this phase and avoid skipping meals.
Adding fibre, protein and healthy fats during this phase is also recommended to help better manage blood sugar levels.
