What kind of meat and poultry should you eat and avoid after giving birth?

We know meat and poultry are rich in protein and other proteins. New mummies are recommended to consume an additional 20g of protein during their first six months after giving birth. You can eat an egg, a half-palm size of a protein, or a piece of tofu, three times a day. This kind of superfood is good for your postpartum body as it can improve your overall health after giving birth. But, not all meat and poultry are good for your postpartum body. Some of them might adversely affect your recovery process. So, which meat and poultry are safe to be consumed and which should be avoided?

Safe Meat and Poultry to Eat After Childbirth

Chicken

You are safe to eat chicken during your confinement period. Chicken has nine amino acids that you need. It is also rich in protein which can help to build muscles and body tissues. Chicken can also prevent postpartum, boost immunity and anaemia and quicken your recovery.

Lamb

Postpartum mummies can consume lamb. It is high in minerals and protein. Lamb can help you to ensure optimal nutrition when your muscle tissue needs to be repaired and built up.

Pork

New mums can also eat pork during their postpartum period. It has protein that contains amino acids that help to accelerate your recovery after childbirth. The protein in pork also damages tissues and muscles. Not only that, but it can also quicken the wound healing process.

Quail

Quails are great for postpartum mummies. They can help to prevent postpartum anaemia and dizziness. Quails can also strengthen your body and reduce the risk of malnutrition. This is good as it can speed up your recovery after childbirth.

Black-bone chicken

You can consume black-bone chicken after childbirth. The nutrients in this chicken are higher compared to normal chicken. Black-bone chicken is also low in fats and cholesterol. This chicken is great to enhance your breast milk supply and quicken your recovery.

Duck

Postpartum mummies, you can eat ducks during your confinement period. They can help you to build up your blood formation and strength.

Goose

Postpartum mums can eat goose too. It can help you to aid your fatigue and weakness after delivery. Goose can also ensure wound recovery and healthy skin.

Beef

You can include beef in your healthy postpartum diet. It has many essential nutrients which can combat postpartum anaemia and boost immunity.

Pork bones

After giving birth, you can certainly eat pork bones. They can aid postpartum anemia and promote iron absorption.

Turkey

New mums can consume turkey after delivery. Turkey has protein in them which is great to heal your wounds and recovery process. Just remember to cook it thoroughly.

Consume in Moderation

Fried chicken

You need to consume fried chicken in a moderate amount after childbirth. This is because it is oily and might cause nausea, constipation, and acid reflux. If you are craving chicken, try to have it boiled or steamed.

Hamburger

Postpartum mummies can eat hamburgers in moderation. You should consume homemade burgers rather than store-bought. This is because store-bought hamburgers have many additives and salt content.

Pork liver

Eat pork liver in moderation after your childbirth. Pork liver is high in protein, calcium, vitamin B, vitamin C, phosphorus, iron, and fat. It can help you to promote blood production after giving birth. Next, pork liver can ensure good sleep quality. It also has niacin which can promote gastrointestinal absorption and digestion. This helps you to easily absorb the nutrients in your food.

Venison

You can also consume venison during your confinement period but in moderate amounts. It can help to ensure physical strength and promote blood deficiency. Just remember not to eat too much of it as it can cause constipation.

Doves

New mums need to consume doves with caution. Dove meat is high in minerals and vitamins. But, you cannot ensure its food safety, It might have many parasites. Just remember to prepare it properly before cooking it. Dove meats can help to aid anaemia and nourish the blood. This meat is great, especially for C-section mothers.

Rabbit

Postpartum mums can eat rabbits too. But, in moderate quantities. It is easy to digest and low in fat. It has iron and protein which help to heal fast after giving birth.

Meat and Poultry to Avoid After Childbirth

Duck neck

New mums should avoid eating duck necks after giving birth. This is as it might cause discomfort to your digestive system and a good digestive system determines your recovery period. A good digestive system can also promote blood production after childbirth. So, do avoid duck necks during this period.

Pork sausage

You also need to avoid consuming pork sausage after your child’s delivery. It might be rich in protein but it contains high sodium and fat content as well as additives. It might also be contaminated by bacteria.

Bullwhip

You cannot eat bullwhip during your confinement period. A bullwhip is rich in male hormones which might interrupt breastfeeding’s mum’s hormone balance.

Bullfrog

You need to consume bullfrog with caution after delivery. Just remember to clean it thoroughly as it might have harmful bacteria.

As we now know, meat and poultry are super nutritious for postpartum mummies. So, it is important for you to take them to hasten your recovery process. You can still treat yourself by eating your favourite steaks or fried chicken, just remember to always maintain a healthy diet!
