One Mum’s Experience Giving Birth at Hospital Putrajaya - November 2024

Childbirth can be a wonderful but terrifying experience, especially for new mums. Some may want to have the perfect experience, a five-star hospital stay. Others are content with the bare minimum, as long as its affordable. But even after combing through hundreds of reviews of hundreds of hospitals, you may still be wondering if you’ve chosen the right place to have your child. If Hospital Putrajaya is on your list, and you’re wondering what the experience is like, wonder no more. New mother Shezza Natasha (@meowshezza) posted a Tiktok slideshow detailing her childbirth experience at Hospital Putrajaya. Everything from the admissions to the medical care, and the meals provided. Here’s her review on her experience giving birth to her first child at Hospital Putrajaya. Maternity Ward Image credit: Shezza Natasha TikTok account (@meowshezza) When I first came in, I had to stay in the observation room because there were no available beds yet but it was fine as it was a comfortable environment. I got a bed the next day in a 4-bedded room. Shezza goes on to comment that the bed was comfy and the toilets were clean. There were other patients there too so it wasn’t so lonely or scary. Overall the fees were RM60 per night for 4 bedded room which she says was worth it. Recap: Have to wait for a bed. Bear in mind that the nurses are busy and may not have time to attend to you immediately since they have other patients that they’re helping. Shezza says that the ones taking your blood and putting in the branula will most likely be the doctors in training and some of them are a bit inexperienced with that. I was lucky because the MOs that attended me were gentle unlike some who can be a bit rough. Shezza said that she had to stay in the ward for 3 days with contractions because the dilation pills didn’t work. Finally, the doctor said she needed an emergency C-section because the doctors are worried that the induced dilations may be causing baby stress. Recap: Gentle dilation checking. Patients at the maternity ward get 4 meals a day, and because I have GDM (gestational diabetes) I get special meals. First time I tasted the cauliflower rice was amazing. Even with my contractions I had appetite to eat because the food was just that delicious. Recap: Delicious food. Baby Care Image credit: Shezza Natasha TikTok account (@meowshezza) One thing about Hospital Putrajaya is that you need to bring your own baby oil to clean the baby with afterwards. Because I had an emergency c-section my baby had to be put into the NICU after birth. After her baby has gone through observation, the nurses gave Shezza back her newborn for massages etc. She says that you can ask the nurses for help if it’s your first time and you don’t know how to massage your baby. NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Image credit: Shezza Natasha TikTok account (@meowshezza) After the emergency C-section, my baby was put in the NICU immediately to be given oxygen. I couldn’t see my baby. The next day I wanted to visit my baby at the NICU but the thing is its in another building and quite far away. Due to the distance, Shezza had to be wheeled to the location which is kind of an inconvenience. But regardless, the NICU is very large and well equipped which is good. Recap: NICU a bit far away. You’ll need to be wheeled there. Hospital Bill Image credit: Shezza Natasha TikTok account (@meowshezza) I stayed in the hospital for a total of 6 days 3 days before giving birth and 3 days after). There is a RM800 standard deposit. But this is excluding the room fees, any emergency C-section, or special procedures (forceps, d&c etc). The grand total for everything is RM1.9k which Shezza says is okay since she had to get a C-section and her baby stayed in the NICU for a few days. The bill for the NICU would have been RM23 per day but due to government subsidies she only had to pay RM5 per day. Recap: Medical deposit (RM800). NICU fees are subsidised (RM5). Overall bill is RM1900 for 6 days. A Unique Delivery Experience It’s important to know that no two mothers will have exactly the same childbirth experience. Even if they choose the same hospital. But with reviews like these, we can at least know what we’re in for, and adjust our expectations accordingly.
