My boys love eating pancakes. Pancakes is one of our common breakfast or tea break meal. Making pancake batter from scratch is so simple that you\u2019ll wonder why you didn\u2019t do it yourself before. I\u2019ve shared my all-time favourite chocolate pancake recipe back in April and I\u2019ve received request for basic pancake recipes, too. It is almost similar to my chocolate pancake but without the chocolate. My youngest son loves it when I make a face or something out of the ordinary pancake and I\u2019m going to do just that. In conjunction with International Cat Day that falls on the 8 August every year (Yes, there really is such a day. I did not just make this up :D), I\u2019m going to make a cat shaped pancake. Meow! Make meal time interesting for the little one with pancakes in interesting and unique shapes. There are two ways to get a cat shaped pancake. First, you spend some money buying a cat shaped pancake mould. This is highly advisable if you are a cat person that lives and breathes everything felines but for the average person like me who simply love cats but is not overly crazy over them, then shaping a cat pancake with my free hand will have to do. Draw eyes and whiskers with chocolate syrup and serve with fruits for a fun and balance meal your child will love. \tBasic Pancake Recipe \t\t \t\t\t \t \t\t1 cup all-purpose flour (130g)3\/4 cup milk (190ml)2 tbsp oil2 tbsp sugar3\/4 tsp baking powder1\/4 tsp salt1 egg\t \t \t\tBreak an egg into a bowl. Add sugar and milk. Whisk.Sift dry ingredients - flour, baking powder and salt into the bowl of wet ingredients.Whisk until just moistened. Do not overmix. A little lumps in the batter is fine. Add oil. Mix and then strain batter.Heat a non-stick pan. Spoon batter onto pan, carefully pouring a little more batter on the top part to form ears and the sides to form whiskers. Cook until bubbles form on the surface of pancakes. This will take about 1 minute. Flip carefully with a thin spatula, and cook until browned on the underside.Transfer to a plate. Continue cooking until you've used up all the batter. Decorate the pancake with chocolate sauce.
